^^How many horses sired by Montjeu have been as good as Hurricane Fly and / or gone to Cheltenham with a favourites chance?

    http://www.racingpost.com/bloodstock/st … 4&tab=stud

The answer is NONE. That’s why the Montjeu Cheltenham statistic was pure nonsense.

I hope all the people who doubted Peddlers Cross are eating their words and should apologise for doubting a really brave horse.

Race was slower than the Supreme by a second and a half.

Race was slower than the Supreme by a second and a half.

I suspect that is as a result of them going such a fierce pace. Essentially they were all slowing down at the finish.

    Not really, Tuffers!
A quick hand timing show that the the first part of the CH (to jumping the 4th hurdle) was run 3.13 secs slower than the Supreme, which means the last 7f or so of the CH was appreciably faster.
For all he’s run a great race, and finished closer than I thought he would, Peddlers Cross had a very hard race, being driven from some way out, and I’ve little doubt he’ll find it easier over further.

I must say I’m surprised as to my eye they were all knackered at the finish. Bearing in mind the first three had all won over further it also suggests it was more of a stamina than a speed test.

AFter comparing both hurdle races, I think Spirit Son looks a nice price at 25’s. See what exchanges will have.

Today, I have been mainly dancing around, singing ‘Rock You Like A Hurricane’ by the Scorpions in honour of the Fly’s tremendous victory.

So, so pleased with him, lovely to see him prove the doubters wrong – and I don’t think even Binocular would have been able to beat him today.

Fantastic ride by Ruby, fantastic training from W. Mullins…just fantastic all round.

And what price Peddlers Cross in next year’s Arkle?

Delighted that Hurricane Fly finally made his doubters eat a slice of humble pie. After the unfortunate incident with Binocular I was very confident, and whilst we should celebrate the crowning of a new champion, I personally think Binocular would have won today.

As I stated in a previous post, Binocular would have greatly improved since his seasonal debut behind Peddlers Cross. I would have expected him to be more than a length superior over Peddlers Cross today, although Hurricane won a shade cosily.

That’s only my opinion, but take nothing away from the winner. We should celebrate the crowning of a potentially great champion and look forward to the two meeting in the future.

I was with Thousand Stars e/w, he suffered a nasty bump mid race, then Overturn carried him wide.

Don’t think he’d have won, just been closer – but surely he’ll oblige at Grade 1 kevel soon on that evidence.

Thousand Stars and Oscar Whiskey really improved their standing for me today, and PC won me over a hell of a lot – guessing Binny was closer to 100 per cent in the Fighting Fifth than I’d thought.

Somewhat disappointed with Khyber Kim, and now we can see that Menorah could well have been this meetings Hype Horse.

It was a great race between the "the fly" ad Peddlars Cross, they are both exeptional and the Mullins horse made me eat my words.Ruby rode a brilliant race,as did Maguire. A worthy Champion and well done to all who backed him. What a chaser Peddlars Cross could be though!! the one unlucky horse for me was Dunguib,i’m not saying he would have won but, he was cantering until he found trouble and was boxed in losing any chance he had.

Absolutely delighted with Hurricane Fly, been waiting since seeing him at Leopardstown in 2009 to do this.

Perhaps the clues to Menorah could be found in Cue Card run earlier and his win at Cheltenham wasn’t quite as good as we thought. That said, with one notable exception, Philip Hobbs horses didn’t run well today. Let’s not write him off yet.

hats off to the fly , ruby rode a cracking race on him he certainly proved me wrong? i thought he needed further. as for my selection peddlers he ran a blinder. kyber kim was about 17 length behind the first 2 , on a line through binoculars 3 and a half length beating of kyber kim last year, then binocular would of been about 5th. i hope the 1st 2 meet again over a bit further as they are 2 cracking horses.

hurricane fly was simply majestic he looked absolutely awesome and peddlers cross ran a blinder just to stay anywhere near him both horses werent stopping and it looked from the reverse angle that they were both still going away from a very good field at the end. On that evidence the Hurricane can rattle up a sequence of crowns wherever he goes and Peddlers is going to be something special to look forward to over fences perhaps another in the Moscow Flyer mould…a brilliant first day!

I think its fair to say Khyber Kim is not the same horse this season and couldn’t use him as form at present.
