One last bet for me, before shelving Cheltenham till the Autumn.
I thought that Libberty Hunter was running a nice race this year when coming down, and he looks worth another campaign geared towards this.
Ideally he’d like it softer than this year, and got to be confident that that’ll be the case next March
Entered over two and a half in The Melling Chase, and think he can outrun his odds there too
Edit 12th Jan – Libberty topped up
Edit 22nd Jan – Brookie added 1000’s
Edit 11th March Brookie 200’s EW
Libberty Hunter 100’s EW/220’s

April 1, 2025 at 16:57 #1725332I have already posted that I’m on Sir Gino at 5s.
If he turns up, he wins.
April 1, 2025 at 18:47 #1725345Long road back it looks like…
When i read that I decided Marine Nationale was the percentage call.
April 1, 2025 at 19:05 #1725347I am on Sir Gino as well. Of course it is a risk but as Glad says, if he makes the line up he wins.
Marine Nationale was an admirable winner but Quilixios was upside him at the last when he fell. OK, Marine Nationale would almost certainly have won anyway but Quilixios would not get within hailing distance of a fit Sir Gino.
Having said that, I think VTC is right (as usual) to identify that Libberty Hunter is ridiculously overpriced. I still think Sir Gino wins if he runs but I have no hesitation in throwing a fiver at Libberty Hunter at that price.
April 2, 2025 at 15:15 #1725392Sir Gino may be over-rated, Ballyburn obs isn’t the world-beater we thought at the time. Hope he makes it back to prove me wrong
April 2, 2025 at 17:14 #1725402Glad Sir Gino most definitely doesn’t just have to turn up , first you have to see if he’s actually recovered , 2nd he needs to beat a prev supreme hurdle and Champion chase winner … Sir Gino has more vet certificates at Cheltenham than actual wins ….

Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
April 7, 2025 at 09:13 #1726552Having watched the Maghull Chase again, I am somewhat tempted by the 16/1 against Kalif Du Berlais.
He needs to improve but that is entirely possible given his age. He looks uncomplicated, jumps well and has pace.
I don’t see why he is twice the price of Majborough.
April 27, 2025 at 07:17 #1728481Decided to take the 16/1 against Kalif Du Berlais, boosted to 17.5/1 with Hills.
Looking at the horses above him in the betting: Sir Gino is not guaranteed to turn up; I am not convinced Marine Nationale will go back to back; Majborough has jumping issues; Il Etait Temps has no Cheltenham form; and Jonbon seems to not turn up at the festival (and is not getting any younger).
The potential fly in the ointment is Fact To File. McManus has never owned the winner of the Champion Chase and I wonder if he might put him down this route if Jonbon and Majborough don’t look up to it. Although I expect Mullins would want to keep it simple and see him hack up in another Ryanair.
Kalif Du Berlais will have to improve but there must be a good chance he will. I am happy to have him onside at the price.
April 29, 2025 at 08:51 #1728607I notice Fact To File runs in the 2 mile Grade 1 Chase at Punchestown today. Is McManus trying to find out if it is worth going for this race next year?

Maybe him maybe Mullins. Henderson been talking about going up in trip with Jonbon, though he has said that before.
Don’t think it will be easy for FTF tonight, hoping Marine shows better 2 mile speed on the run in :o)April 29, 2025 at 16:48 #1728656Mullins tried this experiment with Allaho at Punchestown and it didn’t work.
April 29, 2025 at 18:06 #1728682“hoping Marine shows better 2 mile speed on the run in :o)”
And so he did.
Hopefully faller is ok.
April 29, 2025 at 18:11 #1728688He showed better 2 mile speed on the whole track, not just the run in.
JP will have to hope Majborough steps up.

Majborough wants further than 2 miles against the best imo. At the start of the season trainer said he was a stayer. But he was beating the irish novices so he stayed at 2m.
April 29, 2025 at 18:16 #1728691If Sir Gino, Marine Nationale and Il Etait Temps all turn up, this could be the race of the meeting.
April 29, 2025 at 18:59 #1728699Mike, I’m pretty sure they bought him as a Gold Cup prospect.
