Delegator was favoured over Crowded House for the Guineas even after the latter’s Racing Post Trophy win. Whether or not he’s trained on, which has to be doubtful, Newmarket was never likely to be a serious target.
The time of today’s race was only marginally quicker than the later maiden, so question marks could be raised on that score, but the winner has done it well and beaten older horses (albeit only top class handicappers) in the process. It at least confirms that Sea The Stars didn’t beat a complete pig in the Guineas – you can only go so far in trying to discredit that particular piece of form.
August 30, 2009 at 03:38 #246413Ah the time means nothing, he’s coming storming off a moderate gallop to win easily. It was a really stunning turn of foot given the circumstances and IMO he could easily hold his own in the Group 1 sprinting department. Given the nature of the American track, he goes to Santa Anita a really key player.
August 30, 2009 at 03:42 #246415The Ascot race is shaping up nicely. How long before Aidan comes out and says that the Ripper has a small niggling problem?!!
August 30, 2009 at 03:45 #246416Not a bad day but what happened to Full Mandate? didn’t even get a run for my money.

Delegator was freely available at 40/1 for the Guineas all through the winter!
Crowded House was 12/1!!!It at least confirms that Sea The Stars didn’t beat a complete pig in the Guineas – you can only go so far in trying to discredit that particular piece of form.
Anyone who tries to discredit the 2000gns form is clueless,if there was one race which proves year after year a punters Goldmine its the 2000gns!
Horses that run in the Guineas go on to win over 11/2m, 11/4m, 7f and 6f!
This years race is no exception, some of us knew that back in the spring though!August 30, 2009 at 15:18 #246448

Delegator’s RPR of 117 for yesterday says it all, and it’s difficult to see where he’s improved by giving a comfortable 1.5l to the 107 rated Ordnance Row, in circumstances as near to his ideal as he’s likely to find.
Zacinto will almost certainly show to be better than this performance in time imo. He pulled hard early, and as 10f horse in the making, the steady pace did him no favours at all. He certainly with the right stable to leave this form well behind, given time.August 30, 2009 at 17:54 #246460Reet Hard,in my humblest of opinions the way i read yesterdays race was, Delegator did no more than a bit of work,Frankie pulled him out of an awkward position, shook the reigns,No immediate response,so he gave him a firm backhander and he took off, then the race was over! Simple as that in my little world! Delegator is more than capable of winning the QE2
against Rip Van!! Thats a much bigger world though!August 30, 2009 at 18:09 #246461

I couldn’t give a toss what price Delegator was over the winter, TAPK – Jamie Spencer made it very clear after the Racing Post Trophy that they didn’t need Crowded House for Newmarket.
And excuse me for being thicker than the offspring of the village idiot and his six-fingered cousin, but are you actually seeking credit for ‘knowing in the spring’ that the 2000 Guineas would produce winners over distances from 6-12f?
I’m sure the Nobel Prize nomination is in the post.
August 30, 2009 at 19:17 #246467Can we have these debates without the egos getting in the way please.

TAPK being as humble as possible will let the 107 rated Ordnance Rows victory over the 114 rated Asset at Goodwood today answer the critics of Delegators performance yesterday!
August 30, 2009 at 22:50 #246483To be fair there is a Spencer quote saying on the lines if you think Crowded House is good wait to you see Delegator.
Never was keen on the Dante or Derby or wherever Crowded House ran next when I seen that. Sure I heard it on ATR.
