Nice enuff peformance by Hoh Mike gives spencer a nice headache if Hoh Mike and Espartano were to meet in the Norfolk at Royal Ascot!
May 22, 2006 at 18:06 #71664Did it well enough but I’d still be keen to take it on next time. I can see Gilded putting up a good fight if they meet at Ascot.

I would imagine Gilded’s Prefered target will be the Quenn Mary.
May 22, 2006 at 19:10 #71666He wins the Norfolk for me at this stage. I think that a reproduction of tonight with the extra length and a half or so he was value for would be enough to win an average renewal of that race.
Likeable as Gilded is, she is looking pretty exposed at 5f now. Having said that she’s the best filly to have run at this stage but I wouldn’t be surprised if Silk Blossom gives her plenty to think about in the Queen Mary.
May 22, 2006 at 19:56 #71667I’ve got Gilded as a consistent improver David, if she keeps on improving Silk Blossom will have to be very good indeed, particulary as my rating for the race was much lower than the Racing Posts. There are several others I like more than Silk Blossom at this stage.
May 22, 2006 at 20:31 #71668In my opinion Gilded hasn’t had to improve and hasn’t done so back against her own sex since beating Lord Charles at Newmarket. In fact his form ties in quite nicely with some of the best juveniles to have run so far.
Sadly many people picked up on this but I thought that Kerry’s Dream shaped really well in Gilded’s York race and ridden more patiently and on better ground I think she’ll get a lot closer to her in the Queen Mary.
May 22, 2006 at 20:32 #71669What else have you got for the Queen Mary?
May 22, 2006 at 22:01 #71671If Jim Bolger’s Finsceal Beo turns up she will go very close in the Queen Mary. She won over 6 1st day up but the Drop in trip to 5 wouldn’t hinderence her becasue she showed nice early gear in the 1st half of her maiden win.

May 28, 2006 at 17:49 #71673Cav Okay
Dress To Impress
Excellent Art
Urban Warrior
Just those 4 four the listed National Stakes at Sandown tomorrow. Whilst it was always my intention to give Cav Okay a second chance after Chester, his maiden win hasn’t worked out for all it was a good time but it was gained on good to firm going. I cannot see how a stiff 5f on heavy going is going to play to his strengths at all. I’d rather be with Excellent Art who’s maiden form is working out well and is bred to handle further and cut in the ground. Any opinions? Quite confident the race is effectively a match.
May 28, 2006 at 20:24 #71674I’m thinking of a lay in running of Cav Okay at around 1.2 with a bit of luck. Hughesy is sure to have backers thinking he’s travelling better than he really is and when he lets him down, there will be nothing there!
May 28, 2006 at 23:31 #71675I was just about to start a thread saying "Cav Okay – Will It Go On Heavy Ground?" until I saw this thread. I made a mental note to back it next time out but surely the mud will blunt its speed, and given that stamina doesn’t seem to be its forte I’m now looking to take it on. Excellent Art ran well on debut but I wasn’t overly impressed in giving it a rating of 76+ (Cav Okay 95) and i’m going to give another chance to Urban Warrior even though it let me down last time. It is bred to appreciate the mud and the conditions may offset its desire to want further. It was outpaced last time on fast ground but unless Cav Okay does like the ground and is 6 lengths up on them by halfway, I reckon Urban Warrior may make its stamina count.
May 29, 2006 at 09:57 #71676
It’s an odd choice of race for him, even leaving aside the ground concerns. Surely his best chance of a big prize is in the Weatherbys Super Sprint at Newbury on Jul 23rd. But if he wins this Listed race (worth peanuts by comparison), he gets a 5lb penalty for the Newbury race which has total prize money of £125,000.

May 29, 2006 at 12:56 #716776/4 on Betdaq for Cav Okay now, the second favourite from the RP tissue is now 8/13 I think.

May 29, 2006 at 14:26 #71679Cav Okay a good lay for forumites.
The market told its own story.
I’m not really sure what connections were thinking of as heavy going and Sandown’s steep uphill finish didn’t exactly appear ideal for a speedster whom the trainer was concerned was a short runner when it made its winning debut (presumably he thought it had strengthened up).
Dangerous to make excuses for beaten horses. In Cav Okay’s case:-
Chester- taken on for the lead on unconventional track and passed by a better finisher
Sandown- heavy going and stiff track
I wasn’t impressed with him on the way down today. Is he a regressive one trick pony (form of his fast time win not being endorsed) or worth backing on a sharp track/quick going?

May 29, 2006 at 15:46 #71680Given an easy 5f on quick going I’d back it.
