Ouch! Turned over at 4/11 from the 2 box.
Chester sure does illustrate horses for courses.
May 10, 2006 at 13:15 #71647Chuck out the form book
May 10, 2006 at 14:12 #71648
Hannon’s comment before Newbury that their one doubt was whether he’d stay 5F now looks pretty accurate.
He’s all speed, but no response when challenged on todays evidence.
Who was it who wrote ‘it’s not how fast they go, but how they go fast that matters’.

May 10, 2006 at 14:53 #71649You have to say this horse was disappointing today. He had everything seemingly in his favour and was a big flop.
I was surprised that he wasn’t quicker away than he was after listening to Hannon’s comments, Lord Charles held the edge on him most of the way.
Just goes to show listening to trainer / jockey comments can prove costly.
May 10, 2006 at 15:06 #71650Big difference he was took on for the lead today and was laso caught on the outer. Obviously a disappointemnt but I agree with EC, would be folly to write him off on the back of that considering the promise of his debut.
May 10, 2006 at 15:33 #71651when i said lord charles did him no favours i meant they cut each others throat out in front and set it up for dunlops horse. If hannons and dunlops were to meet at ascot over 5 i wud def bet hannons. Cav Okay reminds me on Noseda’s Blue Dakota who was a very excitin prospect as a 2 year old he was all speed to and just about got the 5 furlong trip.

May 10, 2006 at 17:06 #71652EC,
I don’t think many astute punters will dismiss a 2yo that perhaps didn’t run up to expectations on the strength of this one run. The first race is in the book. Like you, I hope that the ‘crowd’ might give too much weight (as they usually do) to this apparently disappointing performance. I say ‘apparently’ because the winner could be useful.
May 10, 2006 at 17:14 #71653Lord Charles broke better than people expected it to while Cav Okay wasn’t quite so quickly away as last time. It was expected that Cav Okay would be able to move to the rail and not see another horse a la Shamardal (bit before my time but I’ve watched the videos;) ). I will more than likely back it next time provided things are in its favour unless it meets Gilded.:) . Caps a terrible day for me so far.

U wudnt of been around to see Smart Starprincess then on the AW. I dont think i have ever seen a horse that broke as quickly as her. Choisir was prob the closest i ever seen to her.
May 16, 2006 at 11:55 #71655Did anyone see Hoh Mike at Windsor last night. Looked mightily impressive and according to Timeform’s timefigures clocked a faster rating that Cav Okay. Incidentally he also broke the 2-y-o course record for 5f. Connections aiming at Royal Ascot and he surely won’t look out of place.
May 16, 2006 at 12:39 #71656It looks good on the clock, David. The main concern from my point of view is that they have messed around with the straight course and the starts on the straight course at Windsor in the last 12 months.

Hoh Mike is in at Windsor tomorrow night in an interesting contest on softer ground against Cav Okay’s stablemate Sonny Red (won on debut but runner up Conquest didn’t do too much for the form at Newbury yesterday) and others including Lord Charles.
May 21, 2006 at 14:37 #71658Looks a very strong conditions stakes and I wouldn’t be very keen on opposing any of the first four. I’ll have to have another look when the post updates the page but Bazroy may be underestimated.
May 21, 2006 at 15:10 #71659It’s difficult to assess Hoh Mike’s time last week because of the fact that there was only one race on the straight course. The ground was clearly very fast. If the going on the straight course was the same as on the round then my figure for Hoh Mike was 112, 2lbs behind Cav Okay’s Newbury rating. It’s a good figure, nevertheless.
May 22, 2006 at 15:41 #71660Sonny Red is a non-runner in tonights race which means that Hoh Mike is trading at 1.35 on Betfair. Is it me or does anyone else think this is too short?
May 22, 2006 at 16:04 #71661Hoh Mike probably is short enough at around 3’s on considering he isn’t proven to handle a soft surface for all there is evidence in his pedigree to suggest he will. The speed he showed last time suggests a quicker surface is likely to suit him well.
With Sonny Red in the race I would have been tempted to have backed Bazroy at a double-figure price. His maiden win is working out well and he is bred to be useful as well as fast. He’s been gelded since that win so that explains the absence but I’m sure there are weaker races for him that taking on one of the likely favourites of the Norfolk.
May 22, 2006 at 16:34 #71662Bazroy’s trainer has said that he is a fast ground horse, something he is unlikely to come across tonight
