Aidan, you are a disgrace.
"Aidan O’Brien has confirmed Cape Blanco is to miss the Investec Derby in favour of the French version 24 hours later.
Since winning the Dante Stakes at York, O’Brien had mooted the possibility that the unbeaten colt could miss the Epsom Classic in favour of the Prix du Jockey Club and that decision has now been confirmed.
Cape Blanco will be joined in France by Viscount Nelson.
The Ballydoyle handler also stated, as expected, that stable number one jockey Johnny Murtagh will ride new Derby favourite Jan Vermeer at Epsom, with Colm O’Donoghue on Midas Touch and Seamie Heffernan aboard At First Sight."
June 2, 2010 at 12:02 #298179Why is he a "disgrace"?
June 2, 2010 at 12:18 #298184Saying at the start of the season, and constantly up until 2 weeks ago. Running the race that is seen as THE Derby Trial, and then not running, changing plans.
Complete disregard for punters. Same with the St Nicholas Abbey farce.
June 2, 2010 at 12:24 #298185JJM no offence mate but its your own fault for trusting what Coolmore / Ballydoyle say. For example how many horses have been
the best we’ve ever had
or similar wording? I seem to remember that indication on George Washington, Dylan Thomas, Rip Van Winkle, St Nicholas Abbey and didn’t Michael Tabor say he thought Fame And Glory was very special?? (Or similar)
People don’t seem to learn, whatever trainers, owners, jockeys say fine take a note of it if you must but do not take what they say as gospel.
If you back ante post you must be prepared to take the risk on your selection not making the line up – your money = your choice!
Aidan has done nothing at all wrong in declaring Cape Blanco for the French race.
June 2, 2010 at 12:30 #298186The Dante is NOT The Derby Trial as far as Ballydoyle are concerned. They just use the race to gauge the British competition.
2005: Albert Hall & Falstaff (neither ran at Epsom)
2006: Septimus (2nd string in Derby after Horatio Nelson)
2007: no runner
2008: Frozen Fire (16/1 at Epsom so hardly fancied by stable)
2009: Freemantle (didn’t run at Epsom) & Black Bear Island (3rd string at Epsom)
2010: Cape BlancoJune 2, 2010 at 13:14 #298188The only other time that I have backed a Ballydoyle horse Ante Post was backing Rip Van Winkle for the Breeders Cup Classic after the Eclipse last year.
I hold my hands up, I’ve been done, and I won’t make the same mistake twice.
Is very disheartening tho, getting on at 20s and 30s, to see it not run, after being backed down to 5s and 6s after the Dante, alas, never mind.
I don’t understand the reasoning, and never will, move on.
June 2, 2010 at 14:18 #298198Cape Blanco had bandages on at York (a flat track) and was lame afterwards when an old injury flared up. Running a horse prone to lameness on an undulating course (Epsom), on a firm surface, would not be acting in the best interests of the horse.
So I applaud Aidan and Coolmore’s decision in deciding to run Cape Blanco on the flat course of Chantilly.Value Is EverythingJune 2, 2010 at 14:21 #298199Cape Blanco had bandages on at York (a flat track) and was lame afterwards when an old injury flared up. So I applaud Aidan and Coolmore’s decision in deciding to run Cape Blanco on the flat course of Chantilly. They hopefully learnt the lesson after King Of Kings who as mentioned elsewhere had an operation in the winter and went wrong in the Derby and was immediately retired to stud in Australia.
June 2, 2010 at 18:57 #298260I think when you have the Top 4 in the Betting Normal Rules go out the Window.
They have the best 2 Horses running for the Epsom Derby.
Cape Blanco surprised them i would imagine and he goes to France where his suspect Stamina will not be tested.
When Owners main priority is to make Stallions from Horses and when all 4 are owned/Trained by the same people its just simply going to happen.
Aidan O Brien simply has no bargaining chips when it comes to the Coolmore Owner John Magnier. If Magnier says Jump they Jump.
Ballydoyle could walk away with 3 or 4 Group 1s in as many days this weekend. Or they could walk away with none but if they walk away with 3 Group 1 Winning Colts the career’s at Coolmore Stud in Ireland are secured. Its a gamble but a calculated gamble to make Hundreds of Millions for the future
