Pru does his own sectionals Placemat. Visually CB looked to be going plenty fast to me. Watching live I thought too fast and that he’d come back to them. His run style certainly looks like dirt might suit- don’t know many dirt horses by Galileo though.
September 6, 2010 at 21:20 #316225The result did not surprise me in the least. I am surprised that others were surprised. He’s a fox that Mr. Aiden O’Brien.
All experienced race readers could call the result four out.

September 6, 2010 at 22:02 #316234Was a great ride by the Jockey. Unbelievable clock in his head for a irish "Journey man" jockey and thats with the greatest of respect. I not a massive fan of Seamie but that ride was exceptional. I love him to keep the ride in the Breeders Cup Classic but i sure they be thinking about Await the Dawn for Breeders Cup Classic. As Mick Kinane always points out that all Coolmore Horse’s struggle on the Dirt(in the classic) but they are not bred to go on it. The only Horse that has run to his form was Giants Causeway who was bred for the job. I suspect they Await the Dawn will be heading state side with Rip, Lillie and Meow
Quickly becoming one of the very best jockeys in the world from the front. 2nd in the Derby, 1st in the Irish Champion Stakes. Was reading the comments from Roderic O’Connor’s maiden win and apparently he did the same there too.
September 6, 2010 at 22:17 #316239Think there going to go Champion then The Arc with Cape Blanco.
September 6, 2010 at 22:28 #316241They’ve been plotting his campaign with Emmett Brown?
September 6, 2010 at 22:45 #316246FWIW, Rip looks like he’ll get two miles nowadays. He reminds me so much of New Approach and feel conections may not have got the very best out of him, favouring hard slogs over a mile when his ideal trip was always 10f+. Pace pace pace

Yes, cheers, my mistake!

I must have missed the calendar change. Is the Arc run after the Champion Stakes this year?
Henrythenavigator went ok in the Classic. Not sure dirt is such a worry for Galileo’s. S/R on all weather is solid enough. I’m still betting on the Classic.
September 7, 2010 at 14:48 #316312I think Zarkava he rode Scorpion from the front in the Irish Leger and nearly beat Yeats at 1/3 if i remember correctly.
We are dealing in seconds behind winning and losing and he got it spot on. I think they may bypass the Classic with Rip and head for the Mile personally. Await the Dawn is the Classic Horse IMO. Back on Dirt we need Dirt Bred Horse’s its just a fact of life. Even then Zenyetta will prob still win

Being Dirt Bred is surely not so important as being Dirt Experienced? The idea that such a promising animal as Await the Dawn would have any chance whatsoever in the Classic stretches credibility. The poor thing is inexperienced on
turf
, let alone
dirt
!

but i just re-type what he said and see what you think
"With Rip hitting top gear now, Aidan will be anxious to choose the right targets. The Breeders’ Cup Classic has also been mentioned, but that is back at Kentucky this year.
The track at Churchill Downs is a proper dirt track that doesn’t suit well-bred turf horses by sires like Galileo, so Rip may not act on it. I was just beaten in the race there on Giant’s Causeway 10 years ago, but he was bred for it.
When you take all that into account, it would make sense for Rip Van Winkle and Fame And Glory to face off at Leopardstown. Here’s hoping they do."

Mick Kinane quoted I take it? Well I suppose he’s kind of unbiased now, but he didn’t see the race he wanted to see last weekend, for sure!
The truth is, that with the older Coolmore stars looking far from bomb-proof this year (Fame and Glory in particular getting a kid-glove campaign) they might just be tempted to follow your hunch and launch Await the Dawn onto the Churchill Dirt. Their need for a high profile Breeders Cup triumph is getting desperate, but that would be a beyond-desperate measure, in my opinion.

I honestly don’t know what to make of Cape Blanco. Considering I had him down as future Ascot Gold Cup winner it shows you what I know :0(
If you take this win at face value he’s beat an inform Rip Van Winkle a lot further than Sea the Stars did so how you rate him hell only knows.
Racings a funny game and it perhaps this years crop is a lot better than we think. That could be answered if one of them wins the Arc.
However I have a theory!! well one has to try
)I’ve always thought since the Eclipse that Rip Van Winkle is 100% a miler. Someone put a post up about Twice Over, saying he wouldn’t stay 10f which I disagreed with at the time but perhaps he was right.
This was an end to end gallop the type of race where staying power is at a premium. Whe you look at how close Beethoven got to Rip and Twice Over it could be neither truly got the trip in this particular race.
If you think how closesly rated Fame and Glory and Rip Van Winkle were last season if those in the know were taking this result at face value then surely Cape Blanco would be a very short price to win the Arc.I honestly think this could be the case here. The bookies aren’t taking it that seriously and aren’t exactly scared to lay him for the Arc.

How on earth is Await The Dawn qualified to run in the Classic? As a Gr3 winner only he would struggle to make the field. Zenyatta is far from a certainty for the Classic. Only beat a moderate field a length last year and I’ve seen nothing to say she’s improved beating up on B graders of late. Only just defeated a very average animal last start. It wont take a superstar to beat the mare just a better than lamentable Gr1 horse.

Whether or not Rip Van Winkle ran to the best of this season’s form I don’t know, but I find it difficult to believe that he’s the same horse that finished second to Sea The Stars at Sandown.
