I wonder do all those claiming races have anything to do with the proliferation of drugs in the USA.
May 23, 2013 at 18:46 #440511Are racetracks closing, meetings diminishing and purses remaining constant Miss W?
Or do you have the somewhat head-in-the-sand scenario to the UK with both racetracks and meetings remaining more or less constant with purses dropping?
Racetracks are closing left and right, but major tracks like Hollywood are just getting their racedates and G1 races picked up by nearby courses. On the other hand, when Fort Erie (Canada) closed the only thing Woodbine was able to do was move a few major stakes over.
Lots of tracks out west are running on a year-to-year basis. There’s no developers out there gunning for the land, but they lack the money to run a race meet.
Seee the never-ending saga of Yavapai Downs.

http://www.examiner.com/article/arizona … -this-weekThen there are zombie courses like Suffolk Downs that keep on running while legislators and developers squabble over what to do with them.
Keep in mind that there are literally hundreds of courses in this country, and every state is in a different situation. This site might give you an idea of what it’s like outside of Saratoga and Keeneland: http://www.racewithtrs.com/
Purses on the whole are actually
increasing
. Moreso for racinos that have that sweet sweet slots money to work with, but tracks like Monmouth and Churchill have raised their purse structure too.
The decline of jumps racing is a whole nother story, one that doesn’t really belong in this post since there’s no drugs involved…

While this may be at least partly a P.R. exercise, it’s still good news.

He may not be the best, I’m no expert, but I’d take Vic Stauffer’s calls over anyone. Smooth easy listening.

No, there’s also Fairplex Park.

Welcome news and let’s be charitable by not describing it as ‘damage limitation’ though…
Anabolic steroids have been allowed on horses not in training in the UAE to aid the recovery from problems such as colic surgery or serious fractures to combat muscle wastage, but there must no trace on the day of a race
…could be interpreted by some as being ‘economical with the truth’.Has there been a categorical denial issued by the Sheikh and/or Godolphin that none of their healthy European-bound horses wintered in Dubai underwent ‘medication’ there?
The use of steroids in horseracing is permitted out of training in the US and Australia, although the possibility of a worldwide ban is set to be discussed at the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities general assembly in October.
Even more welcome news though the words "possibility" and "discussed" don’t exactly inspire confidence
It’s an ill wind…so let’s hope some good arises from this sorry saga
May 24, 2013 at 13:22 #440565Apologies Miss Woodford, I was referring to major tracks. We still have Sacramento, Stockton and Solano in Northern CA.
