I’m pleased to see that Channel 4 are showing the first two races from Ascot on More 4 today.

I don’t think they’ve done this before and this has to be a welcome development. I’ve often thought that the BBC have been dreadfully slow to use their digital stations (which are redundant during the afternoon) for live events, so good to see C4 taking a lead with racing.

Although there’s a certain logic to doing this specifically for completeness with The Shergar Cup, it would be good if they extend this to the winter when all their covered meetings will be starting around 12.30pm yet the terrestrial show doesn’t start till later.

They used more 4 a few years ago for the Cheltenham Festival if my memory serves correct.

It was on More 4 last year, think it was mentioned on last years annual Shergar Cup thread.

And more recently the Dubai World Cup as well, I believe.

Well if they’ve already used More4 before on occasions I’m not too optimistic that it may become a regular feature.

Was just thinking that using it for earlier winter races would normally involve some decent novices hurdles/chases, beginners chases etc.

Basically, the sort of races bookmakers don’t want punters to bet on.

I dont recall them doing this for any jump racing, however I do hope they do this for Cheltenham next year. They do seem to favour the flat racing though.

Might all be on More 4 before too long if they don’t turn around the numbers.

They did something along similar lines for Cheltenham one year, with first few races on Channel 4 and the rest film 4.

    Film 4 ??

    Wow !!

There must have been some real stars on show, like your namesake RedRum, that they decided to make a film of the last few races so quickly!!
