Has anyone a view on Byron as a Potential Stallion.
I have a Mare from a Mr Prospector Line and am tossing up between sending her to a proven stallion such as Dr Fong or a new stallion such as Byron.
I’m leaning towards Byron, but thats probably because Dr Fong would be the safe option and I’m a gambler at heart!
November 19, 2008 at 22:59 #190701There are clearly serious soundness issues with this horse – he didn’t run , he wouldn’t be a sensible choice, until his offspring prove otherwise, unless your mare showed herself tobe a durable performer.
But have a look at him and see if his good conformation points complement your mare’s bad points (and vice-versa).
You need to ask questions like: Has your mare already produced foals, and do they take after her in particular ways? Would Byron be likely to correct any inherited faults also present in the mare?
November 23, 2008 at 20:23 #191549It’s ringing bells somewhere that as well as not being the soundest, Byron may also have had some slight temperament issues (boiled over a couple of times), although having said that, when he was good he was very good and he is beautifully bred.
Good luck whatever you decide. I think you should PM Sal on this one!
