For my money Katchit has run to about the same level as he did lto, and falls well short of CH standard. Agree he must be a pleasure to own all the same.
You would have to be disappointed with Sublimity; even if not fully fit, he should have done better than he did in what turned out a mediocre race compared to previous renewals.
I thought the winner did well to find more when they came at him in the closing stages which rather spoils the ‘soft lead’ theory, but still has improvement to find to be a threat in March.
People keep postulating that Harchibald won’t battle but, on the evidence thus far, he probably won’t have to.December 16, 2007 at 16:37 #130812I don’t see anything behind the winner being competitive in March and I thought the post-race 10/1 was pretty fair- I’d want him on my side. It makes the Greatwood form look pretty good which must bring Sizing Europe into the picture. I reckon one or two others will appear from the wings to have a say yet in what looks a very open race. I’d be against Sublimity now and anyone touting Kachit doesn’t know their stats- 5 year olds just don’t win the Champion these days- 70 odd have tried since See You Then and all have been beaten.
December 16, 2007 at 19:30 #130833When talking about The Champion Hurdle for 2008 it was interesting what an Irish Bookmaker said yesterday on ATR. He said that in his opinion the winner of the CH hasn’t jumped a fence in public yet. That suggests that there is still an unknown mystery horse in Ireland who is strongly fancied by those in the know. I would hold all bets until nearer the time for now.

I do think however that John Carr may just be being a bit over cautious with Sublimity in his training..
December 16, 2007 at 23:52 #130867Does anyone know what the plans for Amaretto Rose are? She must have a fair chance with reasonable improvement from novice days.
Despite the debacle that was the Fighting fifth (clearly not his running), I still fancy Blythe Knight as a very good value bet. Among the principles, Harchibald stands out, and I see the Champion Hurdle winner of 2008 coming from the aforementioned trio.
December 17, 2007 at 16:23 #130917A lot of talk about Afsoun and Straw Bear
I would think Afsoun is highly unlikely to run in the Champion Hurdle and will go chasing soon.
Straw Bear can be brilliant on his day and is the one horse who could surprise everyone………if he won the champion I for one would not be that surprised. I wouldn’t back him other than at a huge price on the day and that would only be as a silly saver.
Blythe Knight ran no sort of race last time and is definitely better than that.
John Quinn wins the Champion Hurdle and Bellwood Cottages will be bulging at the seems with new owners.Wish he could win for John’s sake but I would be somewhat surprised if he did…..realistically he’s a good few pounds short of Champion Hurdle class and even if everything was perfect on the day you couldn’t really fancy him to do better than run into a place………mind you similar statements were made about Sublimity, Hardy Eustace, See You Then, For Auction and many others who had punters asking "how the hell did that win the champion hurdle? I am getting prepared to ask the same question in 2008.
December 17, 2007 at 17:39 #130927A very interesting race for analysis of going and sectionals for anyone who wants to do the spadework.
December 17, 2007 at 18:24 #130935They might need a JCB

Tell us, you know you want to really. If you don’t, Mordin will
December 17, 2007 at 18:29 #130937They finished very slowly (on account of going quickly earlier) on ground that was a fair bit slower than the official description. It will get an airing in the usual place.
