For anyone who saw the last at Cheltenham, Buck The Legend walked into the horse ambulance so fingers crossed he is OK after what looked like a horrible fall at the third last.

Sickeningly there wre some moronic cretins in the stand who cheered at both the fall of Buck The Legend and the later fall of Lodge Lane – they disgust me!!!

I’ve been at the races myself and been guiltyof thinking "you beauty" when something has fallen and left mines in the lead. In the heat of the moment you don’t really think about injury as most horse that fall don’t get hurt.

However if it is blatantly obvious it’s a real bad fall I agree with what you are saying. You feel like smacking them but not many punters realise the dangers of jump racing and if they sat down and thought about it or found out later a horse was fatally injured they would probably feel very guilty.

Been like that for as long as I can remember and you just have to learn to live with it.

Actually on the back of this post it raises another point. Now, say for instance you backed Roseville in the same race at silly prices just to be placed but you put that bet on in the full and complete knowledge that he needed something to go amiss with the other runners in order for you to collect. You have no control on how they go amiss but you place that wager in the hope that they do. What would make you any better than the person in the stand cheering?

It’s just a hypothetical question by the way!

I am guilty of having a wry smile if a horse falls and mine benefits from it so it can win.

Always make sure the fallen horse gets up though otherwise it is a very hollow and unsatisfactory victory.

Funny you should say that Kendal – it looks as though a number of people may have just done that this afternoon.

Returned at 100/1 the Tote place dividend was only £4.30. Although I suspect very few on course bookies were offering e/w on the race.

The irony is the winner is probably the one runner in the field who did not "deserve" to win the race – he was an absolute sod in the parade ring – not much better ar the start and both the fallers had his measure when falling.

    That’s racing though!!!

I suspect we are all guilty of that at some time or other Neil – but most of us also agree with teh second part of what you have written as well.

There is a world of difference between the wry smile and openly cheering and braying as if in the same way as, say, you football team has scored a winning goal.

Beverly and Cheltnum, the same track bar one has fences and the other has livestock in its infield..

I hate seeing horses going too ground, i woudl rather see a jockey fall then a horse.
As for those sickos who cheered the fallers, push the buggers off the grandstand, they wont bee cheering for long!
