“I’d be dead against Stay Away Fay for the Kauto Star, granted he’ll come on for the run but he looked slow against horses who will likely be in handicaps at the festival if at all”
I’d be wary of calling him slow on the back of one run where he wasn’t fully wound up. For a start Cobden was aggressive the whole way with that other horse, who ended up legless and at the back of the telly in the later stages of the race, and then when the other 2 came upsides he didn’t fold and came back to win. He runs next at Sandown, if he passes that, he should be cherry ripe for Kempton and then we’ll see how slow (or not) he is :o)
November 11, 2023 at 11:26 #1670044One thing with stay away fay is he was an absolutely superb jumper
Made a lovely economical shape
Bit like bravemansgame
November 11, 2023 at 20:02 #1670172Jumping was fine but Bravemansgame won a Challow over hurdles, he has a bit of speed for a 3M chaser. Stay Away Fay got beat over 3m at Doncaster I think off the top of my head and Aintree. I just see him as a future National horse and the Brown Advisory might not be far enough for him.
November 11, 2023 at 22:02 #1670185That’s why BMG went to the Ballymore not the Albert Bartlett? But then he was beaten there too.
Since when have Brown Advisory horses been considered sharper or fast?
You need to stay well- he does
Jump well- so far he doesNicholls will not have had him fully revved at all there.

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!November 11, 2023 at 22:15 #1670188Grangeclare West out tomorrow, can’t wait. I’ve topped up on him for this and backed him tomorrow, as a single and also doubled with Firm Footings. And in a treble for the BANC with Facile Vega/Arkle and El Fab/CC.
Soundness permitting (big if) I think he’s fab and could have a great season.
I love him more than Nathan loves Gaelic Warrior.November 12, 2023 at 13:56 #1670237Giovinco got his season back on track yesterday
There’s just something about the way he tanks through his races that makes me think he could be very good
He could’ve won by 20 lengths yesterday if the jockey wanted
Be interesting to see where they go next
He will be up to a 150ish rating now with more surely to come
Gerri and the real whacker were 153 and 154 before finishing 1st and 2nd in last seasons renewal
November 12, 2023 at 13:58 #1670238I was very happy yesterday for my Giovinco bet
November 12, 2023 at 14:23 #1670243“He will be up to a 150ish rating now with more surely to come”
He beat horses in low-mid 120s with a fair few fences omitted. He already had loads in hand on ratings, don’t see why the handicapper would up it at all let alone to the 150s. If he does it’s guesswork.
November 12, 2023 at 16:36 #1670257I do hope that we will get to see Iroko, Giovinco and Stay Away Fay have a crack at one another before March.
Can’t see it happening but that would arguably be a better race than the KG if they turned up in the Kauto.
The Changing Man is definitely a handicapper, he’s from a prolific handicapping family and will no doubt rock up in some staying handicaps in time. That victory over him does temper enthusiasm with SAF a bit but he is clearly an out and out stayer. I’d actually fancy him for the Gold Cup more than the BA as the new course looks to suit better.
Iroko’s participation in the BA could hinge on Corbetts Cross failing to get back to winning ways. I think Grangeclare would have beaten him even further today had the fences stayed in.
The horse SAF eventually beat in the AB is again being underestimated. That was a decent win first time up. As with a lot of Noel Meade chasers though, the jumping isn’t always what you’d want but he definitely has an engine.
I agree with Mike007 about Gaelic and that clear preference for going right. It will be interesting if they continue to try and hold him up when he goes over fences. He can be very keen.
The interesting angle in this race is the pace angle. SAF will probably benefit most from a strong gallop. Who is going to provide it?
November 12, 2023 at 16:44 #1670260Well done Greenasgrass with Grangeclare West..
I can picture it now

It was a handicap yesterday Mike
November 12, 2023 at 17:25 #1670268Hopefully Gaelic will manage to win a festival race this season , he does tend to find a way to get beat , the worry with Grangeclare is he,s fragile , in not sure you’d run him in decent ground
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
November 12, 2023 at 17:28 #1670270Can’t have gaelic warrior at all at this stage
His jumping/hanging to the right will very likely only be worse over fences
November 12, 2023 at 17:36 #1670272“It was a handicap yesterday Mike”
Yeh i know.

SAF can make it if they want. Like The Real Whacker.
November 12, 2023 at 17:41 #1670274Thanks Nathan, the ball is in your lad’s court now – I see he’s declared for Fairyhouse on Tuesday. Right handed so he will hopefully land over each fence on the course and not in the carpark
and should have too much class for these, although some of them are race fit and Cool Survivor is a neat jumper.November 12, 2023 at 17:56 #1670278“Yeh i know.”
Then you think the handicapper should leave him on an unchanged mark despite winning a handicap on the snaff?
I bet connections would love the handicapper to do that
