I love to say go to the US Masters.
Put like 2k or or whatever. Like a big bet and then just go and follow him for the 4 rounds in the Masters.
I reckon it be some buzz when you have big bet and follow on such a beautiful course.
Must ring up JP and get some tickets now
July 15, 2010 at 19:27 #306703Can’t help but feel that this incredible weather bias has spoilt this year’s Open slightly.
This is not a whinge, or pocket talking, or a rant cos I’m bored, it’s just how I feel.
Everyone who tee-d off before 9am this morning has had a huge advantage. Right now, there’s only three people in the top 20 who have had to play some holes in the wind – Oosthuizen, Tilley, Dredge. All three of those players played at least 10 holes in the calm weather also so they can hardly be described as players doing well in the ‘worst’ of the conditions.
There’s absolutely nothing you can do about the weather, so I’m not seeking solutions either, I’m just stating how I feel. Up until 1:00pm there was no wind whatsoever, now the gusts are 20mph and everyone in the ‘second’ half of the draw has had a huge disadvantage.
Unfortunately, it is not expected to even itself out either as the weather forecast for tomorrow is wind all day.
It still doesn’t make picking the winner any easier because the bias has meant that around 70 players have had an advantage, and believe me, I’d only feel confident about picking the winner if one person had an advantage. I just feel, that because of the weather conditions the ‘afternoon’ playerss have had to suffer, basically half the field have been eliminated from this great tournament.
Thing is though the last 138 must have been spoiled coz its the same every year. The draw has always had an effect on the open.
Personally think that if yer gonna have a bet on the open its better to let the first two rounds go by until its sorted out a bit

Totally agree Andross, if you look back through this thread you’ll see that I’ve said I don’t have my ‘biggest’ bets until the first two rounds are over. You can still back a player at decent odds knowing that the players around him will play in exactly the same weather conditions.
However Andross, the weather conditions today have been totally chalk and cheese from morning to afternoon.
Like you say, it’s normally like this every year, but generally it’s bad on the morning and worse on the afternoon, and then the same the next day so it all equals out. Today was cruel. It was tottally benign this morning, not a breath of wind, soft greens, and perfect scoring conditions. This afternoon it almost blew a gale. The forecast tomorrow is for winds all day, but if there is to be a lull in the breeze then it will come in the afternoon. That means that the players who got the best of the conditions this morning will get the best of the conditions tomorrow. I feel really sorry for the players in the afternoon draw.
Westwood’s score was brilliant, and I can’t help but feel if he loses this tournament (I haven’t backed him) by two or three shots to a player who was on the other side of the draw then he will be extremely unlucky.
July 16, 2010 at 04:34 #306769I loved Woods’s reply in last nights interview, he
was asked "do you think you can catch Rory?" to
which he simply replied "there’s three rounds to go"My feeling is that providing the early starters don’t shoot
loads under today then Tiger will have a steady as opposed
to spectacular round but tomorrow, you’ll see him take off on moving
day.Good luck to all with their bets/selections…
July 16, 2010 at 13:06 #306826I think we’ll definitely see what kind of form Tiger is in this afternoon with this wind around the 25mph mark.
He’s undoubtedly going to have to take the driver off more tee’s today (holes into the wind) and if there are any niggling chinks in that department it will show today.
I think anywhere around level par will be a good round for Tiger, in fact anyone, this afternoon.
July 16, 2010 at 13:17 #306828I’ve topped up on Tiger at 6.0. Massive price and he’s one of the few at the top of the market with winning Major experience
Am kicking myself for not having an interest in Mcilroy. Would still love him to win though, just to read the Steve Palmer column in the RP next week. He’s reportedly had something like £2.7k on him to win…
July 16, 2010 at 13:47 #306834Well I say Tiger, McIlroy and Co have just been given a glorious chance of winning the Open.
So yesterday’s afternoon starters had to play in 20mph winds, and this morning they had to play in 25-30 mph winds, whilst yesterday’s morning starters played in benign weather and now they’ve been called off the course because it’s too windy. They’ll be back when it’s nice and calm
.As I said in an earlier post, the weather conditions have almost wiped out half the field. Credit to Oosthuizen will be given, but he played yesterday in quite calm conditions and he was out at 6:40 this morning and got the best of things also.
The high profile players from the ‘bad’ side of the draw, ie Westwood, Goosen, Mickelson, Furyk, McDowell, etc really have had it tough. The high profile players from the ‘good’ side of the draw, ie Woods, McIlroy, Els etc have had a right stroke of luck – perfect conditions yesterday, and now taken off the course because of high winds.
I just hope the R&A return the players as soon as the winds drop a touch and not when it is perfectly calm again.
As I’ve also said, I’m not moaning about things as there is absolutely nothing you can do about weather, it’s just a shame really. I’m now a massive fan of Westwood, Goosen, McDowell etc and hope one of those guys wins.
July 16, 2010 at 14:01 #306838Goosen just summed it up perfectly on Radio Five live.
The interviewer asked him if he was now going to go and watch some of the afternoon play. Goosen’s reply was, "No, because the ‘lucky’ ones have been taken off the course so there’s nothing to watch"

And that’s exactly what it is, luck/fortune call it what you like. Nothing you can do about it at all. Hope they players come back out soon though as I’m bored sh!tless

Scandalous decision to take the players off the track!!
The R & A want locking up!!!!
That is unfair not differing conditions morning and afternoon!!!
total bollox IMHO
July 16, 2010 at 14:54 #306853Andross, the R&A want locking up with the BHA

They’ve now sent the players back out, and by all accounts, the wind is the same strength as when they were taken off the course

So why were they taken off in the first place? Bizarre.
On the plus side, with the players now back out in the strong winds the draw should even itself out. So all that jibber jabber from me for nothing

Amen to that mate
July 16, 2010 at 15:48 #306866Just steamed in and had another bet in running Woods (10/1)
he’s 9 behind but not out of this, yet

He’ll be out of it if this wind doesn’t drop
July 16, 2010 at 16:08 #306873Watch him go now, great drive on the 5th
July 16, 2010 at 16:38 #306877The course is a farce.
Stupid pins for such crazy wind conditions.
Have to give the players a chance even if their is 5 62’s in by 11am
July 16, 2010 at 17:52 #306888Really feeling confident about Woods in this now, if he can get himself into 2nd and play in the final pairing tomorrow, he’ll win this.
July 16, 2010 at 18:30 #306892Playing Great Stuff now….just needs to keep it going steady and he be sorted
