Yes he has changed his putter Wallace but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s going to improve his game – if it was that easy everyone would do it.
I don’t see how changing his putter makes any difference. His old one served him pretty well for the last 11 years, so why has it now become a poor club in his bag. The answer is it hasn’t, it’s Tiger that has become poorer in this department and changing his putter is just a natural thing to do. He’s still going to have difficulty reading the lines, getting the pace right etc.
If Tiger putts well he probably wins, but on the evidence so far this season he looks to have serious issues on the greens. His driving has been awful also, sometimes finding different fairways to the one he is playing. If this part of his game doesn’t improve either then he will find himself in more bunkers/long grass than he could ever wish for. Yes he will use the iron from the tee a lot, but even with that club he’s missing fairways.
And just to add to all the above, I can’t remember Woods ever playing well in bad weather. The first two days are going to be blustery and wet meaning after everything I’ve said Tiger Woods has to be a lay this week for me.
Remember, it’s all about opinions.

Good luck but Clarke is past it now, the way he let that huge lead slip last week was terrible. It was hardly like their was a group of names lurking behind him either.

July 15, 2010 at 00:32 #306522Scott Verplank @ 400-1
Jeff Overton @ 180-1Hoping to at least get a run for my money. Hoping it’s gonna be good one, whoever wins! Love the Open, especially the first 2 days.
Good luck everyone!
July 15, 2010 at 09:19 #306554Sorry for what might be perceived as after-timing, but had a few quid on Daly at 150/1 to be leading after the first round.
As you can imagine, I’m getting a tad excited but this is John Daly, and with six holes still to play (including the very difficult 17th) he can do absolutely anything. He could easily finish his round on -10 just as easy as -2.
I don’t think St Andrews will every play this easy ever again. Wet (receptive) greens, no wind whatsoever, easy pin positions. It’s a birdie fest out there.

Hes 5/4 in running
good luckJuly 15, 2010 at 09:55 #306564Thanks Matthew. Didn’t back him on the exchanges so can’t lay any off.
He’s just missed three putts for birdies from inside 10 feet on the 12th, 13th and 14th so he might be about to hit ‘explode’ mode. I hope not. If he can get into the club house at -7 or no worse then he might have a chance.
Come on wind… blow you little bugger
July 15, 2010 at 09:58 #306566Come on Tiger
July 15, 2010 at 10:48 #306577Yes Tiger’s doing well, especially with the putter.
As expected Daly couldn’t see it through. Seven under after 11 holes he then had five birdie putts from inside 10 feet and missed them all. He’s finished on six under but I’d be amazed if somebody doesn’t come in with a lower score in these conditions.

McIlroy is on fire here.
July 15, 2010 at 13:10 #306629I’m now starting to question myself as to the reasons why I don’t like Tiger Woods.
And the answer I’m coming up with is becasue I just can’t get him right.
He putts brilliantly for 16 holes, so with his second shot on the 17th about 30 yards away I have a substantial bet on him at 8/15 to record a score of 66 or better. He was six under at the time and just had to par in, with the very easy 18th (a definite birdie hole) to come.
His third shot on the 17th lands four feet away. Job done, knock that in and par the last. Easy money.
What does Tiger then go and do? He misses from four feet at the 17th (for par) and misses from six feet at the 18th (for birdie) – the result, a round of 67 and my Open Championship betting bank is almost bust.
I’m not angry at my bet, I thought 8/15 was an extremely generous price given his short game and how he’d putted the previous 16 holes. It just so happens that as soon as I put my money down, Tiger decided to putt dreadfully on the final two holes.
Some you win, some you lose
July 15, 2010 at 13:50 #306639Delighted with the Start by Tiger…..Could have been -8 if everything dropped.
Ruairi shot the lights out but if he even gets 1/3 of that score he being doing well 2moro.

Could have been -8 if I hadn’t backed him to shoot 66 (with two holes to go) you mean
July 15, 2010 at 16:33 #306666Can’t help but feel that this incredible weather bias has spoilt this year’s Open slightly.
This is not a whinge, or pocket talking, or a rant cos I’m bored, it’s just how I feel.
Everyone who tee-d off before 9am this morning has had a huge advantage. Right now, there’s only three people in the top 20 who have had to play some holes in the wind – Oosthuizen, Tilley, Dredge. All three of those players played at least 10 holes in the calm weather also so they can hardly be described as players doing well in the ‘worst’ of the conditions.
There’s absolutely nothing you can do about the weather, so I’m not seeking solutions either, I’m just stating how I feel. Up until 1:00pm there was no wind whatsoever, now the gusts are 20mph and everyone in the ‘second’ half of the draw has had a huge disadvantage.
Unfortunately, it is not expected to even itself out either as the weather forecast for tomorrow is wind all day.
It still doesn’t make picking the winner any easier because the bias has meant that around 70 players have had an advantage, and believe me, I’d only feel confident about picking the winner if one person had an advantage. I just feel, that because of the weather conditions the ‘afternoon’ playerss have had to suffer, basically half the field have been eliminated from this great tournament.
July 15, 2010 at 17:23 #306674It was unforunate that last 2 holes it has to be said.
For instance if he was -7 he be half the odds he is now so you can get on still at 5.7 or so.
Not going to lay off until 2moro sharpens up. Might nt lay off at all if he is in the Tiger Mood
July 15, 2010 at 18:06 #306682Agree with that Wallace.
I’m actually pleased that Tiger is in contention because, as someone who wants to oppose him, it means other golfers are a bigger price now. If Tiger had have finished on -7 or even -8 then some players would be twice the odds they are now.
Will have a few bets in the morning, but the majority of my bets will be Friday evening/Saturday morning before the third round commences. If Tiger is in contention (and he should be now) then other players will be decent odds and I will be happy to take the great man on.
Good luck with your bets mate. If I don’t back the winner then I sincerely hope Tiger wins for you and Matthew.
