Postponed quoted as doubtful by the trainer and Found will be probably be off to see Galileo soon.
That leaves Flintshire @ 5/4 Fav. You must take that on
Highland Reel 5/1 to win
5’s gone into 3’s
October 15, 2016 at 18:01 #1267359Found is by Galileo so that might present a problem. Being serious this is an issue for Coolmore.

Possibly but Found had her second bite at the apple today. No chance she will turn up @ Santa Anita.
October 15, 2016 at 18:11 #1267364I think she will and I would have thought found would be sent to either fastnet rock or hopefully declaration of war. That would be some horse that last pairing. Found doesn’t owe coolmore anything now but I hope minding and Alice springs are kept in training.
October 15, 2016 at 18:15 #1267366Still some firms going 5’s, they are probably watching the football ATM so you might be ok.
October 15, 2016 at 18:53 #1267375No need to send found to the breeders cup as highland reel has the beating of Flintshire on previous runnings.
A total rerun of honk Kong vase. Funny seamie said he would have ridden found given the choice. What a brilliant ride from one of my favourite horses. Like the Marvellous st nic keeps his form amazingly well and a good to firm 12f is up there with the best around. Funnily enough never felt so confident about a race since teenosos derby win. Wasn’t brave enough to lump on. So pleaded for seamie who very rarely gets it wrong in big races and was very unlucky with Lancaster bomber.
October 15, 2016 at 19:10 #1267376Found ows nobody nothing but I would like to see her defend her BC Title as an Arc winner and I can’t see any horse beat her right now over 12f Turf on fair going, anywhere.
Best Wishes

Yes, 12 F is her best trip which she has proved already. I dont think she needs to prove anything anymore. Only 2 weeks to the BC and would be sad to see her bomb out.

I agree but it would be same route as last year, though 1 run more this year and tougher opponents all year. Still she has also just finished maturing, stronger than last year. O’Brien knows!
Best Wishes

“She’s a great mare and she still kept coming with her head down.
“Ryan gave her a great ride as she was drawn out wide which is a difficult enough place.
“She looked great and was well in herself. I’m not sure about the Breeders’ Cup, the lads will have to talk about that.
“Highland Reel will be going for the Turf so I’m not sure if she will go. The climate is different from last year as it will be very fast ground.”

My pleasure.
October 17, 2016 at 19:11 #1267644Why is Flintshire a shorter price than Highland Reel at the moment?
Last time they raced against each other Highland Reel came out on top and will be going into this off the back of his career-best performance whereas Flintshire was turned over at odds of 1/5, admittedly on softer ground than is likely at Santa Anita, on his most recent start.
I’d have Highland Reel at 7/4 and Flintshire at 11/4 not the other way round as they are at present.
This is all assuming Found doesn’t travel of course, which I don’t believe she’ll do.

I think you have pretty much answered your own question.
Flintshire should have been pulled last time. You can pretty much put a line through any of Flintshire’s soft ground runs. He was eighth to Treve in a soft ground Arc, second to her in a good ground Arc. I think his two Arc seconds are better than anything Highland Reel is capable of and given a sound surface he deserves to be favourite.
October 17, 2016 at 20:52 #1267657Highland Reel beat Flintshire on good ground and over 12f in the Hong Kong Vase last December, and Highland Reel is an improved horse this year. Flintshire has been winning very soft races very easily in the States against poor opposition, hence the short price.

Must admit I struggle to keep up with Flat racing in December. Just had a look back at the race. First of all Flintshire was giving 5lbs to Highland Reel and was beaten a length and a half. The impression I got was that Flintshire initially quickened past Highland Reel only to be outstayed close home. On that evidence there isn’t that much between them but so late in the season it is guesswork as which horse was the closest to their best. I wouldn’t be certain that Highland Reel has improved on that performance this season.
October 17, 2016 at 23:45 #1267671Yes, the 3yo Highland Reel was getting weight from the 5yo Flintshire.
I think there is usually room for improvement from 3yo to 4yo, but more limited potential for improvement from 5yo to 6yo.
At this stage last year, all Highland Reel had to his name was a soft win in the States, and a second in the Prix du Jockey Club. This year, he has a win in the King George, and seconds in the Juddmonte International and the Arc.
His best distance is 12f, he loves fast ground, and I think he is a much better horse (like Found) at this time of the year, so his best run could still be ahead of him. -
