November 30, 2009 at 16:23 #261338Was just posting about the Leopardstown meet over on the Irish NH thread!
Interesting to see that Mikael holds an entry here, but is not entered for the Knight Frank over the three miles. Captain Cee Bee should be out in the next few days at either Ayr on Wednesday, Naas on Thursday or Navan on Saturday. I think Osana is going to that Navan race as well so that could be an informative contest. Sizing Europe should take all the beating here regardless.
Durkan New Homes’ work must have all dried up over the last year. Fair play to Bórd Na Móna for taking up the sponsorship. I think they’re sponsoring the whole card on Stephens’ Day.
December 3, 2009 at 13:01 #261922What a race this could be now Captain Cee Bee is back. Sizing Europe v Captain Cee Bee v Osana v Sports Line/Cousin Vinny/Mikael D’Haguenet. Roll on Stephens’ Day!
December 3, 2009 at 16:50 #261956Cee Bee will laugh at Sizing
December 5, 2009 at 14:19 #262261EOG confirms that Osana will head here next after a satisfactory win at Navan. Hope all the main players turn up sound because it is looking like a hell of a race on paper.
December 5, 2009 at 14:24 #262262Is COUSIN VINNY due a run before Boxing Day?
December 5, 2009 at 15:00 #262274Hard to know what Willie’s plans are at the moment. I’d say Sports Line is very likely to take his chance here. Kempes was in at Clonmel tomorrow but that has been abandoned now.
Cousin Vinny is in both this and the 3m Grade 1 whereas Mikael D’Haguenet is only in here. If either of them were to run without the benefit of a prep I’d say Mikael would be the more likely of the two given that he has chase experience in France.
Cousin Vinny had the option of the Grade 1 novice hurdle here last year after finishing third in the Royal Bond but he went for a maiden hurdle instead. It wouldn’t surprise me if Willie just ran him in a beginners chase at the meeting.

S’chase (Grade 1) €58,500.00 ( 2m 1f – 4yo+ )1 Bobs Pride (DKWeld) – MrRPMcNamara …… 11,12
2 Captain Cee Bee (EPHarty) – MPWalsh ……. 11,12
3 Fosters Cross (TMullins) – DNRussell.. 11,12
4 Osana (FR) (EJO’Grady) – AndrewJMcNamara.. 11,12
5 Schelm (GER) (RO’Leary) – PWFlood .. 11,12
6 Sizing Europe (Hde Bromhead) – AELynch ….. 11,12Looks a great race with the winner almost certain to be made a hot favourite for the Arkle. Sports Line goes for the Greenmount over 2m3 at Limerick instead. I doubt I’ll have a bet in the race but is there a possibility that Sizing Europe and Osana might take each other on in a duel up front and forget about Captain Cee Bee and Mark Walsh? Might be something to watch out for in-running.
December 23, 2009 at 23:44 #265232I don’t think Sizing has to make the running- certainly didn’t over hurdles. Unless his physical frailties recur I can’t see him beaten here. Have you seen the Greenmount decs IC- seriously hot race!
December 23, 2009 at 23:50 #265236Looks it alright. Baily View, Beau Michael, Coolcashin, Dancing Tornado, Faltering Fullback, Mr Warbucks, Oscar Looby, River Liane, Sam Adams, Sports Line, Swift Counsel

I’d say they all thought they’d found a nice handy Grade 2 and thirty grand!

I was always under the impression that Sports Line was better left-handed? Couldn’t have him at the likely short price against this competition if that is the case.
December 25, 2009 at 11:51 #265441Sizing Europe is going to romp this leaving Schelm and Osana to battle for minor hnours – Sizing’s rating and speed is gonna be too mich for a quality field!
December 25, 2009 at 11:57 #265445Henry de Bromhead giving the latest on Sizing Europe, along with some of his other horses running over Christmas!
December 25, 2009 at 12:16 #265452The way that Captain Cee Bee won at Naas on his first run over fences may not have been impressive on face value but digging deeper into how long he had been off the track and how he battled on when challenged by Zaarito (who wouldve beaten Whatuthink on his previous outing if not falling) was highly promising.
I have an AP bet on this fellow at 20/1 and know that this will be D-Day for that bet. This is an extremely hot renewal of the Bord Na Mona and the winner of this years’ Arkle may very well come from here.
If Captain Cee Bee can put Sizing Europe to the sword here then, like Long Run at Kempton, we may have a highly promising chaser on our hands.
1pt Captain Cee Bee @ 4/1 GP
December 25, 2009 at 14:49 #265466Really is a shame Captain Cee Bee will be going for the Arkle at an age of 9, he is a horse of big ability for me, whos injuries have probably stopped him of being a very very good horse, worth to mention he actually beat Big Zeb once upon a time in a NH Flat race, beat Binocular, won after being so long off the track on a day when he wasn’t fancied, I think you should look for the double engaged bet of this race and The Arkle if you can get it.

I’d agree with that. If you are going to back Osana or Sizing Europe for the Arkle now is the time to do it. Captain Cee Bee is hard to way up, I realise he beat Binocular but there were a lot of rumours about Binocular having missed work and maybe , just maybe that for isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.
They made it quite clear the most important thing for them was getting Captain Cee Bee a race and winning wasn’t that important. That was reflected in the betting but despite him winning he wasn’t overly impressive at any stage of the race.
Even if he comes back to his best on hurdle form Sizing Europe who many think would have won the Champion Hurdle but for his mishap still holds all the aces.
Osana did finish 2nd in that Champion Hurdle so I would put him ahead of CCB as well.
I have sever reservations about CCB making it to Cheltenham. If he gets well beaten here I think they will look elsewhere.
December 26, 2009 at 11:03 #265537Sizing Europe is currently the lay of the Cheltenham Festival,he may well saunter round Leopardstown this afternoon and be shortened even further for the Arkle, but i hope both the Captain and Osana test him to the full,Odds on is certainly short for Sizing imo.
December 26, 2009 at 11:59 #265549Osana didn’t impress me last time out and Captain Cee Bee didn’t look entirely fluent over the bigger obstacles.
Barring a fall, I cannot see anything but a Sizing Europe victory. Chasing is obviously his game.
