Are the British and Irish racing authorities underselling their product? There I am today in the lap of luxury watching in the highest definition the countenances of the Norwich Coaching bench, the Canary faithful and Delia in utter dejection at seeing their team being comprehensively outplayed by Blackburn Rovers. To my left is a very modest medium-sized screen split in two between a live Cork (Mallow) race and a South African race. To its left is a much bigger screen with a banal looking race from Germany in progress! Almost in front of me beside the woebegone Delia I am being dazzled in glorious technicolour by the live action from Fiddler’s Green and other exotic racing locales. You might ask does British/Irish racing have any say in how the product it sells is being relayed and marketed in the these betting emporia. I would think there should be a stack of stipulations with the sale of any such broadcasting rights. One I would suggest is that every betting shop should have a set aside lounge area where the two specialist racing channels can be enjoyed without interference from all the other “noise.” Any other suggestions?
