Has anyone seen this story?
21 million available to back on VDV in running – even as it crossed the winning line! Unbelievable scenes. Betfair have voided all bets due to a technical error, which allowed a customer to exceed his exposure limit.
I had a cheeky tenner on, thinking that I might have got away with it. Sadly, my Christmas bonus was voided.
Anybody else any views on this? Here’s a tasty screen shot.

December 28, 2011 at 17:46 #384626Do you think you would have got your tenner back if it had lost?
December 28, 2011 at 17:55 #384628It was bound to be void.
Someone can not pay if they haven’t got the money.Blunkett,
You ought to delete that betfair link, as it gives your username.Value Is EverythingDecember 28, 2011 at 18:03 #384629If it is a one-off then I do not suppose it will affect things much but if it happens again quickly it will call the integrity of their site into question. The mug punters already think they are getting ripped off so when something like this happens it merely serves to confirm their prejudices.

If in general we didn’t, the world would descend into anarchy.

December 28, 2011 at 18:19 #384635Did you see how much money was "available" Yeats? And at that price at that stage of the race…
And you think it is a "genuine" bet?
Value Is EverythingDecember 28, 2011 at 18:19 #384636Very interesting Betfair term & condition here;

People do make mistakes, how many people do you know to get a bet on Betfair that exceeds their limit? Any advance on none?
What a coincidence the one time it happens it’s for the wrong price for millions.
Rumour has it, it was Betfair’s own layers laying the bet, lets see evidence it wasn’t.December 28, 2011 at 18:31 #384641Very interesting Betfair term & condition here;
It is very difficult to come to a judgement based on a single rule taken "out of context" of the full set of rules.
On the face of it this rule suggests the bets will stand, however is there another overriding rule to trump this one?
For example do Betfair have a "palpable error" rule?
This sort of event could potentially line a few lawyers pockets.
My first reaction when I saw it was either a "system error" or a "hacking" incident.

It was obviously more than a "mistake". I suspect some sort of sabotage.
"Rumour"s and conspiracy theorists.
If it is too good to be true…

Yeah, there’s been a few at a 1000 but they’ve been paid out haven’t they? maybe it depends who the layer is.
How many punters do you know to get a bet on Betfair that exceeds their limit?
December 28, 2011 at 19:27 #384657This is a hack. Big PR problem for Betfair, but ludicrous to expect payment on a past-the-post horse at 29/1.

December 28, 2011 at 19:31 #384660Could someone please explain how the "hack" works in theory please
How can this possibly happen to Betfair
thanks
Ricky
December 28, 2011 at 19:35 #384663A "hack" means their security has been breached, so there is no knowing whether their customer’s personal details etc have been compromised. Not that I would want to spread panic, but if I hadn’t closed my Betfair account some time ago I would be doing so with the utmost haste now.

How was it past the post with 6 hurdles left to jump?
Betfair have explained what it was and it wasn’t a hack, or do you consider they are telling lies? They had the ability to suspend betting on the race anytime during it, do you think all bets would have been voided if it had lost?

How was it ever ‘genuinely’ a 28/1 shot with 6 hurdles left to jump?
do you think all bets would have been voided if it had lost?
Given the facts and and figures involved I think it’s 1.01 they would have had to, without question!
