Have a nasty feeling that Third Intention will be Pricewise pick. Knocking EW bet
February 17, 2012 at 08:49 #391820Paddy Power going EW – 5 places.
February 17, 2012 at 09:23 #391823Bet 365 are also first 5 and Pwise already has 2 selections!
February 17, 2012 at 10:07 #391827Pretty open race and if Zarkandar is as good as he should be, if he is to be considered for the Champion Hurdle, he should win this. I’m not so sure of that so I have decided to look for something with a bit of value and take advantage of Paddy Power’s 5 places.
I think Desert Cry fits that bill. He ran a pretty decent race behind Celestial halo in the Champion Hurdle trial at Haydock last month and previous to that he ran well, giving lumps of weight to everything, in a decent race at Musselburgh. He finished 5th (beaten 4 lengths) there behind Palawi, giving a stone to all 4 in front of him and keeping on at the finish.
I know this is a much tougher race, but racing off 10st7lbs will be new to him, he has always carried over 11st in all his races, except the Ladbroke (10st10lbs). I know weight is all relative, but I just get the feeling he might have a bit more to come. It is just a gut feeling, and I guess that’s why he is 40-1, but I’m having a bit of it.
February 17, 2012 at 10:41 #391832Big G: Bet 365 are also first 5 and the bonus with them is IF you manage to get the winner you also get another free bet onto the next Ch4 race shown!! Great value
February 17, 2012 at 12:56 #391866That is indeed a very good offer GDC. I do have an account with PP, and put it on when I saw the 1st 5 being offered. If I had spotted Bet365’s offer I would have considered opening an account with them…..thanks for the heads up there.
February 17, 2012 at 13:13 #391880Sailors Warn e/w for me!
February 17, 2012 at 13:24 #391887Was counting my money turning into the straight, didn’t even place
February 17, 2012 at 13:31 #391896BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM
Got to love it when a plan comes together, enjoyed Ruby’s words after the race on how well the horse did to win. I did not see the first 4 hurdles so he had no chance!!
Great ride yet again from the best jockey around bar none!

Happy Happy Happy – all Chestenham bets paid for
February 17, 2012 at 13:40 #391900Third Intention is a great little jumper but a complete change of tactics frokm prominent racing to held up and round the outside in a slow race got a terrible run for the cash. No chance with the winner regardless but nioce to be put in the race for atleast a chance.
Zarkandar champion??? Nah
February 17, 2012 at 14:04 #391913Great performance by Zarkandar I think he’ll be in the shakeup at Cheltenham but definitely a few pounds + below what it takes.
February 17, 2012 at 14:05 #391914Good boy, GDC. Well done.
February 17, 2012 at 20:36 #392015Well done to those that backed the victor and the placed beasts.
Twas a decent performance from Zarkander but surely not a Champion winner (6/1 – yeah, right!). Think connections will be happy with a place IMHO. He surely won’t have enough toe for the Champion.
I wonder if he may become difficult to place over hurdles…though there is the Aintree Hurdle.
Olofi ran OK, stronger pace would have helped but there are plenty of other runners who would have liked that, too.

February 17, 2012 at 22:05 #392039Hurricane fly is an incredible animal and will surely take all the beating but that being said I think Zarkandars performance is not being fully appreciated on here. The 2m was too easy, the pace was too slow and the horse was not 100% fit but he still wins. He was obviously well handicapped but he has consolidated his novice performances with a win in top class handicap company in the hustle and bustle of an occasionally rough race. He has quickened off an accelerating pace when he was crying out for a stamina test and battles a finish to win cosily in the end with ears pricked. Off champion pace I believe he will travel well and finish full of running perhaps without the turn of foot of hurricane fly but if you are looking for the next best prospect in the race I can’t see past zarkandar.
