Fit …he never travelled and jumped poorly …you’ve got to look at the stats of GC winners

To be fair HDLG I can’t disagree with you about the Gold Cup taking its toll on a horse, I’ve thought the same thing ever since my ante-post bet on Bob’s Worth lost when trying to defend his crown, have never bet on the race since!

Winner was primed for the day and did it very nicely.

APT, i understand the Gold Cup comments but it’s not as if those in behind weren’t trying and it hasn’t ruined Protektorat clearly, nor did it ruin APT when 2nd in it the year before.

The horse was desperately unfit. He’s drifted all week on the exchanges and he drifted markedly for the Gold Cup as far back as the summer. Some unknown people know these things miles out and it stinks.

Tyt why is he so unfit ? , why run a unfit horse ? , he was fit last year , sorry in my eyes Minella Info mk2 , are you going to play him at a short price next time ?

He was so unfit because they’ve not put the necessary work into him to make him fit enough to win. They’ve ran him to get him fit for future targets. Would’ve thought that was obvious with the benefit of hindsight?

I didn’t back him or anything else in the race. My annoyance is with ‘the market’ knowing these things well in advance. All about one day for the proven horses.

Tyt he was odds on ? , sorry I really don’t see where your coming from , he ran like a drain , you don’t run GC horses that unfit , it would be asking for trouble , he was beaten to far out for it to be fitness

He was a shorter price a few days ago. Big drifter in recent days and clearly with good reason. I don’t think he is injured. They’ve just not taken the cotton wool off yet with March already in mind.

They will have had him as fit as last year

He just hasn’t run his race, they are not robots this happens

Next time will tell us whether it was a blip or he’s gone to the well too many times

He’s not that old but he’s been racing since he was 3 so wouldn’t be that surprising if he started to regress

French breds tend to peak slightly younger as they start racing so young

    Next time will reveal all

Every horse has its price, but A Plus Tard’s needs to be a bigger one after this.

He will be priced up as if today never happened next time out.

    But it did.

Thanks all. Missed all the racing as was away for the weekend and just catching up now. An odd run from APT, he didn’t jump great but not terribly…perhaps it was just the ground, hopwfully not the start of a back problem or somesuch.

Good to see old BDM leading them round and Frodon and Eldorado Allen put in decent shifts too, but really pleased to see the Skelton’s plan rewarded with a G1. I’m not surprised they ruled out the KG straight away and just plan one more hopefully slightly easier race before the Gold Cup rather than try to keep him wound up to 90 all season.

There’s no way on earth that APT was beaten due to fitness yesterday. Blackmore at no stage looks happy. At no point is she stood in the irons motionless with a ton of horse on the bridle under her.

10/1 is a very fair each way price for the GC imo.

Doubled with the Sherwood horse that demolished the bumper field at Cheltenham last week!

Go win only, instead of each-way, TC – it’s the two hob-nob thing to do.
