    Market up for this…

    https://www.oddschecker.com/horse-racing/ante-post-racing/national-hunt/betfair-chase/winner

A Plus Tard the obvious one here, and he speaks for himself, but I’m a huge fan of L’Homme Presse, and should the fav be directed elsewhere, he’s my idea of the winner.

This’ll surely be the target for Ahoy Senor too, and he’ll be no pushover, with a big season ahead of him.

I don’t think Nicholls will be that keen to send Bravemansgame here, with a view to Kempton, so it looks set up for the front three in the market to me.

The one I’m considering though is Royal Pagaille. Put in his place by A Plus Tard in this last year, but he did injure himself in the race. Couldn’t possibly be a serious bet right now, with those ahead of him in the betting, but the race can cut up (front two aside, it was another poor renewal last year), and he’s the one I’ll probably add in the coming weeks. I’d love to beat the 12’s, and if I could, that would probably see me having an early bet, for a bit of interest, though obviously work cut out to beat the front three in the market, particularly A Plus Tard, and L’Homme Presse

Edit – Took the 12’s, as this could easily cut up

    Royal Pagaille 12’s

It would be nice if l’homme presse and protektorat turned up to give a plus tard a race

Last years race completely fell apart, be nice to find out how good horses like lhomme presse and ahoy senor are

    What’s A Plus Tard’s OR – 180?

That’s a proper decent Cheltenham Gold Cup winner, he slaughtered them by 15 lengths plus and he’s still only eight (rising nine).

Nothing’s beating him for a while when he’s fit and well.

He was exceptional but a little flattered as minella indo clearly had some sort of problem finishing his races off last season

He charged us the hill when he won but was barely moving when he crossed the line

Who wins over 3 miles allaho or a plus tard?

I think allaho beats him personally, likely by a distance

But then I’m a massive allaho fanboy

L’homme Presse, Ahoy Senor not coming here according to connections. Protektorat is atm.

This should be a penalty kick for A Plus Tard.

FF, Minella Indo has beaten Allaho 3 of the 5 times they’ve met. Indo is 1-1 with A Plus Tard if you ignore his fall December 2020 and, as you say, he clearly wasn’t right last season. I think Indo is a crazy price for the Gold Cup given his course form. 40/1! He’ll only be 10 come spring.

Minella Indo is 50 win only for the Cheltenham Gold Cup to small stakes at Betfair Exchange.

Minella Indo won’t be winning a 2023 Gold Cup imo unless the race cuts up.
Not only does he have to turn around a Gold Cup thrashing (i backed him), i was impressed with Galopin Des Champs and L’homme Presse last season and feel they could step up and be competitive. And MI will be 10 next year so i don’t think there is any more improvement left. No 10 year old (or older) has won a Gold Cup this century.

Fair comment, Mike – it does seem to be becoming a younger horse’s contest.

I keep waiting to hear that old Bristol De Mai will be retired, but no news yet.

He’s obviously too old for this now, and he’s definitely on the downgrade, as we seen last year, but in anticipation that they’re going to give him an entry here, I’m on the verge of taking the 33-1 ew

A Plus Tard should have everything in his favour here, and even with the hard race in March, he’s the one for me. Short price, but I’ve got to be with him here

There was a time when the old Hennessy at Newbury attracted top quality – Arkle won it back in the day, Burrough Hill Lad in the 80s and Denman in the modern era.

This contest at the bastardised fences Lancashire swamp pit put paid to the Hennessy being a great race and for what?

How to desecrate a once great Jumps track and knacker a big race elsewhere in one fell swoop – Chezza isn’t happy!

I’m not a fan of this race, particularly where it is situated in the calendar. In a previous era we had the Mackeson, then the H&T Walker, and then the Hennessy – all over 3 successive weekends.

This race has been shoehorned into the calendar, and there’s no doubt it’s had an adverse effect on the Hennessy.
NH racing thrived on competitive racing with decent fields and top horses giving weight away in the top handicaps…..Not this small field graded nonsense. The Gd1 Chase for 3m chasers is run at Kempton on Boxing Day……

I’d move the Betfair Chase to the January meeting as a Gd2 Ltd Handicap. And whatever happened to the Newton Chase over 2m4f? Which was once a Gd1, won by Sabin du Loir back in 1991.

I’d hate myself if he ran and I hadn’t went back in again, so I’ve taken the 20’s on Frodon…

    …and now the 33’s too

Was hoping Nicholls would keep him fresh and save him for the King George.

    Racing Post:
Paul Nicholls admitted beating A Plus Tard in the Grade 1 Betfair Chase (3.00) at Haydock on Saturday looks like “an impossible task” for Frodon but such is the yard’s form he is tempted to have a go.

“We’re going to decide on Thursday morning, but I’m tempted to run,” said Nicholls. “He was mad fresh on Monday and Bryony [Frost] said he feels good. So long as the ground doesn’t go heavy, I’d say he’s fit and well and will probably take his chance. I’ve got to discuss it with Mr Vogt [owner], but I’d say there’s a fair chance he’ll run.”
