Cracking race this, I like all four at the top of the betting, especially Capt Chris and Ghizao. I’m not sure if Cue Card is better on good ground, Somersby certainly is but goes very well at Ascot. Capt Chris probably has the best form on offer so going for him at 11/4.

Seemed a strongly run King George and Long Run probably both went for home too soon and idled badly once in front. Captain Chris came from further back and may be flattered by proximity to the winner. He also didn’t travel with the fluency you’d expect of one proven at 2 1/2 miles and even shorter. Under pressure some way out at Kempton. In his two races this term has been able to (largely) get a rail position that suits him. Can jump badly right. However, some of that is (imo) allowed for in his price and is my second choice. Might save on him if the price is right.

    Prefur

    Cue Card

who for one thing didn’t stay in the King George, but also unsuited by being held up; with uncharachteristic early errors. Provided he goes back to front-running should leave that form well behind. Ghizao and Finians Rainbow can front-run, but neither needs to lead or be suited by a strongly-run 2m5f. I’d expect a slower run race than Kempton which should not place too much emhasis on stamina. That again would be in favour of Cue card.

Finian’s Rainbow could’ve needed a run chasing home Captain chris in the Amlin. Another possibility is he didn’t stay in testing conditions the 2m3f in heavy. Or is it he doesn’t act so well on very soft ground? Or was there something wrong physically? Had an op since. Finian’s Rainbow would have as good a chance as any if producing his best. But there’s too many question marks to back him at current prices.

Somersby is closer in the betting to those three than I’d have them. Probably will improve for reappearance, but although some of his form is comparable – is inconsistent with a poor strike rate for one with his ability.

The others don’t look up to it. All imo.

Shame Captain Chris made that mistake, took what would have been a grandstand finish, but as expected was the main two who fought it out.

Sprinter Sacre deserves an outstanding rival and Cue Card should run in the QMCC imo, been his best opponent to date, he wont of course but would be good to see Sprinter Sacre be pushed along for once and Cue Card would be the horse to do that, a natural 2 miler who is showing his class over further.

I think Cue Card would have won anyway.

Decent performance by Cue Card imo. Seems to love his jumping and saw Joe trying to rein him in at a few fences today.

Wasnt sure about him as a novice as he didnt seem to find a lot under pressure (and that high head carriage) but thats the type of horse he is. Just needs a more sympathetic ride. Undoubtedly has a decent engine and high cruising speed – jumps mostly ok (fiddles a few) and travels.

Just maybe he has grown up a bit and has that touch of class.
