Fine piece of Foresight there Fist, even if you keep going round the streets and houses! As they say in Thailand!
October 31, 2009 at 15:50 #256429That was a strange race.
TBH, I thought DP was beaten turning for home, looked like a patent non-stayer. The beast did well but there is no way I’d back it over 3 miles plus again as I’m not convinced he wants to go that far.
Anyways, for now, Fist and Zippy can walk off into the sunset hand in hand.

October 31, 2009 at 16:04 #256430Our Vic won this, which suggests it’s an achievable trip for horses who would normally struggle to make the distance. Deep Purple may be similar. I think he’s quite smart and did v. well considering it’s his first race out of novice company. I had him doubled up with Fair Along, so am v. pleased. Welcome back the jumps season!

Well done, Tomsk. I also thought Fair Along could win that race – nice double there!

November 1, 2009 at 23:17 #256676I though Evan Williams’ post-race comments were quite funny- as if there were anything tactical about the ride-the horse was dead and buried 2 out which must have been the time he hit 35 in-running but the supposed non-stayer was the beneficiary of the other 2 treading water after the last. Good to watch , but dubious form.

They were saying on Timeform Radio he hit 1000 in running but whether anyone got on or not I doubt it as it all happened so quickly.
I’m not saying he’s a Gold Cup horse, not for one minute but you have to consider he wouldn’t be at his happiest being held up. He’s at his best when he makes all but that would have been suicidal with Ollie in the race. Back in a lets say "normal race" where he can dominate from the front I’m pretty sure he’ll win his fair share. Looks like Huntingdon next which will be interesting.
November 2, 2009 at 18:08 #256786if you "hit 1000" in-running it means someone got matched at that price. I thought I read his ceiling price was 35 however.

I agree the trainer’s comments did sound a bit suspect. All very cool but not very convincing. I reckon Williams thought DP was cooked turning for home.
I really don’t think the form amounts to much.
I’d consider backing DP in the Peterborough, but nothing beyond 2m 4f or 5f.
