Now come on guys, I am talking about race riding, not who you fancy the most
But as we are on the subject, young Katie Harrington is not a bad looker
Anyway, who in your opinion is the best female jockey out there, or your favourite female jockey. Whether it be the flat or the jumps, you can put up who you like, but please give brief details as to why you think she is the best.
In my opinion, there are some fantastic female jockeys currently, none so than over the jumps. But I have to say that Hayley Turner is my favourite, and probably the best in my opinion. She is the first female rider that I was comfortable in backing her mounts, whereas previous to her, I would cross the horse out if it had a female jockey onboard. I also think one of the best compliments you can give a lady rider is to say that she doesn’t look like a lady when in the saddle, and Hayley certainly fits that category. She has got a very cool head on her young shoulders, she never panics, she talks well, she is knowledgeable and she regularly gets rides. I hope one day she gets a chance in a major race, she deserves it.
I look forward to your views.
Mike
July 10, 2007 at 17:15 #107158Nina Carberry for me – granite-tough, fearless and versatile.

July 10, 2007 at 17:23 #107161I thought Lisa Jones was excellent, if she’s been lost to the sport we should all hang our heads in shame.
Got to agree with the berry man regarding NH, Carberry is different gravy.July 10, 2007 at 17:30 #107165Definately Nina Carberry
July 10, 2007 at 17:33 #107170I know it’s a bit obvious and not at all original, but it has to be Nina Carberry for me.

July 10, 2007 at 17:54 #107179What happened to Lisa Jones? Where did she go?
A couple of decent ones in Europe but i guess you are refering to the two Islands,Hayley Turner,Nina Carberry,Cathy Gannon,Richard Hills are the obvious ones,Danielle McCreery aint bad for a claimer!!
Look to be honest with you one of the above aint that good and someone once told me its a man (so i was thinking alla Mauresmo in tennis) but i`ve never seen he/she close up and im only assuming its a girl from the way he/she drives out in a finish
I`m also hitching to get this one off my chest,Kim Tinkler…the rest would be libel so ill stop whilst ahead!!

I was just about to say "isn’t Richard Hills a man"?, then I very wisely read on and got the gist of what you were saying

July 10, 2007 at 18:03 #107185Lisa has been riding with a fair degree of success in Macau
July 10, 2007 at 19:24 #107198Nina Carberry over jumps, Hayley Turner is good on the flat, let’s hope she gets more luck than Lisa Jones and Jo Badger who both left the UK due to lack of opportunities after riding out their claim. Kelly Harrison did well in the televised claimer at Beverley on Saturday and won again yesterday on something else. She’s one to look out for…
July 10, 2007 at 21:54 #107241Kate Harrington already has an equine profession sorted – as a show jumper
Like Fran Pickard – both from what I’ve seen of her at the track and her seemingly down to earth attitude and hard work she shows at the track. Some female jockeys seem intent on taking a "style over substance" attitude (and no I don’t mean riding winners whilst sat back to front).
Would agree with Danielle McCreery and her stint down in South Africa with Mike DeKock (I think it was) won’t have done her any harm either
Other than those the obvious ones really – Nina Carberry and Katie Walsh
July 10, 2007 at 22:23 #107248Rose Davidson NH & Danielle Mccreery Flat (Danielles record on Cripsey Brook is only bettered by KIM TINKLER!
July 10, 2007 at 22:41 #107251Nina Carberry (just to be original!). Head and shoulders above any female jockey out there, in terms of NH at least.
July 10, 2007 at 22:49 #107256In the interests of "fair play" and allowing the ladies to have a level playing field, does anyone believe that female jockeys should be allowed a gender weight allowance?
This is a serious question.(Oh, Nina Carberry without a doubt ).
July 10, 2007 at 23:16 #107265In the interests of "fair play" and allowing the ladies to have a level playing field, does anyone believe that female jockeys should be allowed a gender weight allowance?
This is a serious question.I doubt it would work, as 1) there would be cries of positive discrimination, and 2) because no amount of weight allowance all of a sudden makes you capable of actually being able to ride out a finish (there are of course noteable exceptions to point 2)).
July 10, 2007 at 23:24 #107268But, (re point 2) wouldn’t, say, a seven pound allowance go some way to addressing the imbalance of the lack of upper-body strength that a female jockey naturally suffers vis-a-vis her male counterpart and which is most noticeably essential in a driving finish?

Could end up with a bunch of shemale jockeys cheating the system
