Cue blurred pictures (as BBC don’t have any proper footage, and have to put up with John Hunt’s R5 commentary on the Gold Cup….)
Cue the smug Sue Barker.
Cue Deep Breath (we’ve only got 45 seconds guys…..)
Denmania- Paul Nicholls- Comply or Die- AP McCoy- New Approach- Ryan Moore- Aidan O’Brien- Zarkova.
Phew! Is it over yet?
Now lets talk about fecking cycling, a minority sport, but one with loads of BBC footage….
FFS- why don’t they just hand the Derby and the G.National to C4, and just cover Royal Ascot with a couple of fashion designers, interjecting with the odd race or 2.
December 15, 2008 at 01:07 #196965Can’t say I was surprised – I mean it’s no longer on BBC regularly.
December 15, 2008 at 01:10 #196966Agree- totally unsurprising. Just wonder why they bothered at all.
Mind you- will be interesting to see how many swimmers and cyclists are featured 12 months from now.
Somebody challenged me the other night to name 5 UK gold medallists in the last Olympics. Managed Adlington, Hoy and Ainslie, but that was it.
December 15, 2008 at 01:11 #196967Hello,
I feel for Tony McCoy.. a true champion of sport, bravery beyond belief ,completely ignored by our National TV Service…Bast*rds…
regards,
doyley
December 15, 2008 at 01:14 #196968In a similar way, Phil Taylor. Set aside arguments over the definition of ‘sport’ but the guy is a phenomenon,
But plies his trade mainly on Sky…….
December 15, 2008 at 01:21 #196970Hello,
CYCLING, yeh, that’s a clean sport in it!!
.and I am still trying to decide whether Motor Racing is actually a sport, and that kindly German allowing the go kart rider to pass in the last race would certainly have attracted the Stewards if it was a horse race…
Swimming?? Christ that’s exciting..throw a Great White in the f*c*ing pool and give us some real fun..
Sailing and rowing..give us a break, it is just a rich man’s hobby..very rarely see any f*c*king regattas on the Manchester Ship Canal. When I view these "races", I have a certain admiration for the guy who invented the torpedo!!
regards,
doyley
December 15, 2008 at 01:24 #196973Regarding Cycling – Track Cycling is pretty clean, it’s the Road were the drugs/big money is.
December 15, 2008 at 01:42 #196977Hello,
All involves bikes and cyclists Andy…

December 15, 2008 at 01:45 #196979I cannot believe how little coverage it got. What an utter disgrace. What do you really expect from the bbc though… such a shame
December 15, 2008 at 02:01 #196981You should all be ashamed of actually watching this festival of embarrassment.
Are you masochists?
December 15, 2008 at 02:05 #196983It’s a bit like watching ‘Mamma Mia’- its so bad it’s good.
Except that, with SPOTY, it’s so bad it’s not at all good. It’s carp.
December 15, 2008 at 02:40 #196993I was "watching" but missed it – must have blinked …
December 15, 2008 at 04:42 #197024I watched it as usuall to see our usuall less than 2mins coverage and apart from now wanting to be taught swimming and cycling by Rebecca Adlington,Vicky Pendleton and Rebecca Romero it was average.
Great to see Sir Bobby get an award especially in Liverpool for a Man Utd legend.
A few things though.
Coach of the Year, why no Aidan O’Brien or Paul Nicholls
Team of the Year, Again the above two.
What does racing have to do to be respected more on this show considering they showed more about a football tournament that England didnt even qualify for.
December 15, 2008 at 07:57 #197041the end of racing on the beeb
December 15, 2008 at 19:07 #197088Well done Chris Hoy.
Probably the most deserving recipient of this award in many a year.
Great athlete and tremendous ambassador for his sport.

December 16, 2008 at 02:55 #197190The good old Scottish block voting system prevails again (it PAYS to be the biggest and most vocal minority in the country)
December 16, 2008 at 03:32 #197203I missed it due to a Carol Concert and tried it on BBCi Player. Heavily edited programme which included no racing or football and a little cameo of the Welsh Grand Slam for it’s rugby coverage (another sport the BBC have mucked).
Whilst I was happy with Chris Hoy, can somebody please explain why Valentino Rossi was not a nominee for the overseas award. Eight Moto GP world championships, hard, tough and with a great Italian take on the English Language. The BBC are a mystery.
