So much for the BBC kowtowing to the Tories.
January 16, 2022 at 11:34 #1578331They,ll start showing adverts , no big issue , should have been done years ago
January 16, 2022 at 11:53 #1578335Adverts are f***ing annoying.
January 16, 2022 at 11:57 #1578337I was lucky enough to work for the BBC (on Grandstand 1989-1991) that still resembled the BBC of my youth.
It’s changed out of all recognition since then.
I can mourn the passing of the BBC as it was 30 years ago, but not the one of today.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"January 16, 2022 at 12:06 #1578339Necessary evil Glad , it also might make them get a finger out and start producing some quality TV
January 16, 2022 at 12:46 #1578346First lets get it correct, the fee for watching the BBC has been frozen, although the idea of funding being axed and watching many of the highly paid ‘stars’ being sacked quite amuses me.
I can’t but agree with Ian as regard the content and output of the current people responsible for it’s programmes and news.In recent years they have made a dash for the youth market both in terms of viewers and workers in my opinion which has lead to the way things are at present. It’s simply time for them to start thinking about the general public as their viewing audience and NOT chasing the trendy views of the day.
good luck to allJanuary 16, 2022 at 13:35 #1578359I will believe it when it happens but it is long overdue. It is absurd to require a licence to watch television in today’s day and age, just to fund channels which fewer and fewer people watch. Time for the BBC to live in the real world like everyone else.

I’d rather watch adverts than pay a ridiculous fee.
January 16, 2022 at 14:47 #1578375Great news for the right becuase the left’s chief propaganda outlet is having its funding cut. Also great news for the left becuase the right’s chief propaganda outlet is having its funding cut.

Which is why BBC3 was shut down? 🤔
January 16, 2022 at 15:08 #1578381I was horrified to hear this last night. I’m not happy with the BBC’s news coverage ( most people will say it has a left wing bias but I fail to see that given that they gave Farage so much air time and Question Time, which I no longer watch, is just pure right wing propaganda) but tend not to watch or listen to it anyway. I watch most of their series (the most recent one being The Tourist) and listen to BBC Sounds most days. Hopefully this government will be gone before the funding is taken away from them. They’re out to get Channel 4, too, because Ch4 News holds them to account. BBC 4 is far too educational for this government. I can’t help but feel that I’ll have to subscribe to Sky Arts if BBC 4 goes. It only went free to air recently but I can’t see that lasting forever. There are very few things about this country that the rest of the world admire other than the NHS and the BBC and the government are out to get both of them.
January 16, 2022 at 16:08 #1578387Think you will find they moved it online Gladiateur
However last year they were talking of returning it to mainstream tv at the expense of BB4 which would be a error as it would mean losing some excellent presenters like Hannah Fry and others who give the brain a decent workout.January 16, 2022 at 16:24 #1578391Aren’t a lot of BBC4 programmes Open University ones? Can’t have people accessing educational programmes though, can we. Even if a lot of people don’t want to watch them they should be available for people that do.
January 16, 2022 at 17:17 #1578396Are adverts really more annoying than their countless irritating previews of forthcoming programmes, such as The Wheel & The Wall etc?
January 16, 2022 at 18:33 #1578415So Dorries accuses the BBC of nepotism. But employed her daughter as a p.a. for £45,000 a year.
January 16, 2022 at 18:45 #1578417On the rare occasions I tune into BBC nowadays they are completely incapable of getting any programme off on time, invariably because they have got to squeeze in three brain-dead trailers for other programmes I don’t want to watch.
Plus it’s just the same formula recycled generation after generation.
I got tired of police drama with Dixon Of Dock Green (Sweeney better on the other side), I got tired of Hospital drama with Angels, I got tired of cookery shows with Rick Stein 30 years ago (and he’s still bashing out the same sort of stuff), and I’d seen enough theatrical drama after I, Claudius.
And the “news” is rubbish – it’s dumbed down nonsense nowadays: “what is inflation and why is it important?”
Oh, just F off!
Is this the Special Needs Channel?
Trust I’ve made myself clear – the BBC has long since had its day.
