Barry & Sandra Kelly Memorial Novice Hdl (Grade 1) of €90,000.00 4yo+
2m. 4f. 2nd – €18,000.00, 3rd – €9,000.00, 4th – €3,600.007-14 AURA ABOUT YOU 5 11-5 Paul Nolan — 97 134
112 DONNAS PALM 4 11-6 Noel Meade — 134 139
6-21 MIKAEL D´HAGUENET 4 11-6 W P Mullins — 35 129
-111 PANDORAMA 5 11-10 Noel Meade — 159 159Bit of a joke that there are only 4 left in at the five day stage. Suppose Pandorama has probably scared off most of the opposition. Surprising that Nicholls hasn’t kept one in if he’s really serious about challenging for the Irish trainers championship.
Looks like Pandorama is going to take a similar route to Aran Concerto who won this race two years ago. Hard to see him getting beat on Sunday. You’d think Noel will keep Donnas Palm for Leopardstown at Christmas but Willie Mullins’ horse looked very decent winning his maiden the last day and Paul Nolan’s mare ran very well in the Royal Bond so we should get some idea whether Pandorama could be the superstar some of us think he’s going to be.
December 10, 2008 at 19:54 #195904Mikael D’Haugent’s French form looks quite strong – although he didn’t win on a line through Saint Renan he’s about 17-18 lengths off the best 4yo Chasers in France (Oculi and Loulia).
With Pandorama likely to be prohibitively short once more 3/1+ about Mikael would make him a decent betting proposition.
December 10, 2008 at 20:01 #195905Willie has been doing very well with his French imports over the past few years. Mikael D’Haguenet was quite impressive at Navan the last day. He comfortably beat Realt Dubh, who’s a decent animal himself, and they pulled well clear of the third. Pandorama has looked like a machine but hopefully this fellow gives him a race on Sunday. Doesn’t really look like much of a betting race to be honest though.
December 10, 2008 at 20:24 #195909Will also give us a half decent line on Hurricane Fly and Cousin Vinny through Donna’s Palm which will be helpful
December 10, 2008 at 20:28 #195910Doubt Noel will want Donnas Palm running against Pandorama but they are in different ownerships. Paul Nolan’s mare is likley to run though and her run will be the first test of the Royal Bond form. If Donnas Palm doesn’t run Aura About You will get black type just for standing up!
December 10, 2008 at 20:37 #195913Fair point I’d forgotten about that IC. Could turn into a bit of a match in which case I think that Pandorama will have to go for it someway from home, can’t see a French horse being done for a turn of foot.
December 10, 2008 at 20:48 #195916on a line through Saint Renan he’s about 17-18 lengths off the best 4yo Chasers in France (Oculi and Loulia).
Think that’s rather bogus. In the Prix Caldarium, Mikael d’Haguenet was only a length ahead of General Tete Jaune, who is pretty exposed and officially rated 23kg and 20kg inferior to the two horses you mention. Saint Renan seemed to run slightly better in defeat behind Loulia, and Loulia has gone on significantly since.
That’s not to say that Mikael d’Haguenet’s anything other than quite a promising horse though.
December 10, 2008 at 20:54 #195919Either way it’s fair to assume there’ll have been some improvement in Mikael D’Haugenet too Pruf, he was only a young and inexperienced horse when he moved to Mullins.
Sorry it’s just my way of getting Loulia into this topic
December 10, 2008 at 20:57 #195921And I have spent far too much of the last month or so rating the French jumpers for my own good…..
December 10, 2008 at 20:59 #195922I’m attempting standard times etc. Pruf but when I find claiming hurdles quicker than Grade 1’s and X G1 winner has run the same CD 25 seconds quicker it really does make me wonder.
Presume at the moment you’d have Remember Rose top rated (of those currently fit and healthy)?
December 10, 2008 at 21:15 #195931I’ve got that one rated 153. Not sure what else is up there in that region (and fit/healthy etc). Aforementioned Oculi and Loulia are 149 and 143.
The juvenile hurdlers are the really interesting ones. You have to imagine that if the French targeted the Triumph Hurdle they could easily have a clean sweep.
December 10, 2008 at 23:14 #195968I´d certainly have Votti, Long Run, Helium (ok not technically French anymore) ahead of the British runners, probably by quite some way but with the program the way it is for hurdlers in France there´s very little point in coming to Cheltenham other than if you fancy selling up lol.
Oh and I´m ducking the filly with the sex allowance for the Triumph (you probably know the one i´m talking about if you saw her win on International weekend).
You didn´t use the Master Minded formline then
December 13, 2008 at 04:57 #1965843 declared for Sunday with Donnas Palm taken out as expected. He’s down to run in the first race on the same card at Navan.
December 14, 2008 at 04:58 #196828Frost forecast for tonight so there’ll be an inspection at 7.30.
Current PP odds:
Pandorama 1/4
Mikael D’Haguenet 4/1
Aura About You 16/1December 15, 2008 at 00:04 #196952Good shout IS- hope you were on!
December 15, 2008 at 16:39 #197061Most definitely Carvills
