(1:20) 338C Barry & Sandra Kelly Memorial Novice
Hdl (Grade 1) €45,500.00 ( 2m 4f – 4yo+ )1 Rhyl Accord (WPMullins) – RWalsh 11,10
2 Shinrock Paddy (PNolan) – APCawley 11,10
3 The Hurl (MFMorris) – NPMadden 11,10
4 Summit Meeting (GB) (MrsJHarrington) – RMPower 11,06Pathetic turn out for a Grade 1 novice hurdle. Where are all the good bumper horses from last year? I’d love to see Summit Meeting win to boost Some Slam’s form even further. Hard to look past Rhyl Accord though with Quel Esprit running down at Mallow on Sunday instead.
December 11, 2009 at 23:38 #263464Summit Meeting looks well over-priced at the current 9/2. You could make a pretty strong case that both his hurdling form and bumper for is as good as anything on offer. He put up an excellent hurlding debut when beating experienced rivals first time of asking and there was a lot to like about the way he put distance between himself and second from the back of the last. He also won probably the hottest bumper run in Ireland this year at Punchestown.
Shinrock Paddy may have won a Cheltenham bumper but the form of it looks well below that usually required for the track while he’ll need to be leaving his hurdling debut well behind.
Wouldn’t be convinced with Rhyl Accord either, especially at odds-on. He beat an ungenuine 102-rated mare on his hurdles run and there’s nothing to say he’s any star yet.
December 12, 2009 at 09:54 #263503Rhyl Accord is going to be a machine, and will hack-up tomorrow.

Despite there being only 4 runners it should be a true run race. Both The Hurl and Shinlock Paddy like to force the pace and it would deteriorate from their chances big time if they didn’t.
After the beating Nial Madden gave The Hurl last time I wouldn’t bet him with bad money wouldn’t surprise me if he chucks it today.
Shinlock Paddy reminds me of old Night Nurse and I think Paddy Power must be thinking the same at the price he’s offering. He fought like a tiger after being in front for a long time but this looks a much better race. Wouldn’t put anyone off backing him as he’s a cracking looking horse.
Ryll Accord was very free running in his first run over hurdles and expended an awful lot of energy during the race. Despite that he won very easily and looked like a step up in grade would help rather than hinder him. With Ruby on board and up against classier horses he may settle better and is sure to take some beating.
Summit Meeting looks an even better prospect to me. He travels really well, is really tough and finds plenty when it counts. He doesn’t look as if he has as much toe as Ryll Accord, as he gradually winds it up to get into top gear. I think he’ll prove too tough for Ryll Accord before going on to better things. 9/2 is miles too big
He looks a real Albert Bartlett type and I have backed him at 33/1 and 25/1 in the hope he ends up there.
Summit Meeting 9/2 for me
December 12, 2009 at 13:06 #263526Willie Mullins is a bit like Aiden O Brien….the fact he has 4 horses to choose from and he picked Rhyls accord he must think he is a very useful sort.
I would hope he beats this opposition easily to give us a good indication of where we stand.
December 13, 2009 at 10:36 #263646Seems like a few more are now aboard the Summit Meeting ship. Hope he wins today although the small field and heavy ground wouldn’t be ideal.
December 13, 2009 at 13:28 #263666Shinrock Paddy has improved some amount for his maiden hurdle at Punchestown. Looks a real Ballymore Hurdle contender. Great week for Paul Nolan and Squeaky.
Quel Esprit would have probably given him more of a race than Rhyl Accord looking at his win down at Mallow.
December 13, 2009 at 15:21 #263679No apparent excuses for Rhyl Accord, though he was given a somewhat peculiar ride; as if they were concerned about his stamina holding out. He might need a return to 2m.

Maybe a daft question but the Neptune and the Ballymore are they the same race?
Think it’s he a very fiery horse and they wanted to settle him Grassy….better they forget that Idea.
Said the winner reminded me of Night Nurse..Think he must have been reading my posts he won like Night Nurse,,,,,,that was very impressive!
December 13, 2009 at 15:55 #263690Very happy that we got a huge margin winner….in saying that Rhys accord was ridden as stamina was a issue. He could drop back in trip as Navan takes some getting in that ground.
Another talented bunch of novices coming through

Neptune Investment Managament (I think) take over from Ballymore as sponsors of the Baring Bingham Hurdle at the next Festival, Fist.
