Nor does it disproove anything either, only time will tell. But even if the horse never runs again still a very sorry affair for Irish racing in my opinion.
September 6, 2007 at 17:26 #113796You can watch the race on ATR’s website for free, marb.

Again, I make no comment on this particular incident or anyone involved in it.
In general terms though, if at some time in the future a much-reviewed incident was to happen and then to be cited to assist a local to defeat steps taken against him by "the English", dare one suggest that in some quarters at least the more enduring legacy might be as "the stuff of legend" ?

September 7, 2007 at 09:08 #113844In fact I am yet to here one pundit, broadcaster, journalist, etc come out and say anything other than it did not look good – and that was putting it nicely.
MikeIn fact Alan Sweetman himself in his RP article states that he is quite prepared to give Heffernan the benefit of the doubt.
If I currently had the oxygen of publicity I would be doing the same, as I did in my previous posting on this thread.
I have yet to hear a REAL racing journalist (Matt Chapman is a tv presenter) denounce the ride as cheating – and I won’t, because it wasn’t.
Incidentally, how much money do you boys think someone can get on an 8-15 fav at Tipperary?September 7, 2007 at 19:49 #113913A fair bit more than a 2-7 shot in a race priced up by the bookies a couple of minutes before the off TWW!
September 7, 2007 at 22:07 #113951Everyone probably aware that Magna Cum Laude runs in the Leops 5.05 tomorrow with Kieren aboard.
Shamie rides another O’Brien newcomer ( Windsor Palace) in the same.
Should be interesting.
September 14, 2007 at 16:31 #114950Even Matt Chapman, who never gets a thing wrong
said it was the most ‘disgraceful’ thing he has ever seen. He said that live on his Get On show earlier today. In fact I am yet to here one pundit, broadcaster, journalist, etc come out and say anything other than it did not look good – and that was putting it nicely.
Nothing will change my opinion about the race – the fav was backed as if defeat was out of the question. If only I knew before the race that this was the case

September 14, 2007 at 16:50 #114954RPR Magna Cum Laude 79 Achill Island 96
Tf R Magna Cum Laude 85 Achill Island 98He sort of has a point.
September 27, 2007 at 18:32 #116769It’s got to be said that Magnum Cum Laude looked less than straightforward in a nursery at Dundalk just now.
It’s not really the point, but I suspect Heffernan will feel a point has been proved.
September 28, 2007 at 05:20 #116842Magnum Cum Laude isn’t straightforward and probably will end up lower rated than Achill Island – I don’t know that that gives every jockey a license to make next to no effort on the horse when they have him in a challenging position, however.
September 28, 2007 at 09:57 #116885The subsequent performances of MCL really do not give Achill Island much of a chance in the Royal Lodge tomorrow.

Isn’t Achill Island better jusged on his listed race form at Tipperary against the likes of Lisvale and Round Tower Stakes winner Norman Invader than in a steadily run maiden against a dodgepot. For what it’s worth, I agree he’ll struggle, though not because of the subsequent performances of Magna Cum Laude.
September 28, 2007 at 10:04 #116888Perhaps, but that is his most recent piece of form on view. I’m always wary of 2 year olds who regress in their level of form as we reach this stage of the season.
I could have phrased it as I think Achill Island will struggle due to his proximity to MCL in his recent maiden
