elgransenor (ridden by pat eddery, trained by vincent o’brien, owned by robert sangster)was beaten by secreto in the derby, (ridden by christy roche at odds of 33-1) even I know that, and I was eight then
March 6, 2013 at 00:28 #431449my apologies, I just checked and secreto was 14-1. maybe I was thinking of high-rise?
maybe chapman had a brain-wave and thought how did st jovite get beat by dr devious in the 1992 derby, given he thrashed him by 12 lengths in the rematch at the curragh a few weeks later? then got the two races confused
March 6, 2013 at 17:18 #431491Whats that to do with the dirty bookie channel ???
imo
Ricky
March 6, 2013 at 17:49 #431495nothing, just someone mentioned that chapman made a boob on the derby earlier. perhaps I should have put the quote up.
March 12, 2013 at 10:31 #432188When does a 2m 5f, 6 runner novices’ hurdle from 11th March become a 3 runner 3m 2f Handicap Chase on 14th January?
Only on the ATR Racing Review!!
Beware Chalk Pit and Quartz Du Montceau apparently both ran twice the same day.
The 4.40 from Plumpton also had a head-on from the 5.20 at Taunton!
While I’m at it, who made the decision to use tiny results graphics in the corner of the screen instead of a full screen graphic during the live broadcasts?
No complaints when there are three or more meetings as we sometimes didn’t get any results on screen, but when there are only one or two meetings there is plenty of time and absolutely no excuse for not using a full screen graphic.
....and you've got to look a long way back for anything else.
April 3, 2013 at 17:31 #434892Another good one today espmadrid. The last two races from Fairyhouse had commentary of the first circuit while the picture was showing the last circuit. Oh, the wonders of digital viewing.
April 3, 2013 at 17:52 #434897Brilliant!
And yes, as feared, what do we get on the review today. No sign of Fakenham or Cork from Monday. Instead two back to back Southwell reviews!
So the Southwell races from Tuesday have THREE viewings in full screen, while we only see the Fakenham races once live – two races in split screen (one in the small screen with no commentary).
I wasn’t expecting a full review, that seems out of the question, but there was a twenty minute slot spare this morning. No excuses, just frustrating.
....and you've got to look a long way back for anything else.
April 4, 2013 at 13:43 #435043Yes, well we all know that maximum coverage of all weather racing is more important than the jumping stuff as far as ATR is concerned.
April 5, 2013 at 08:04 #435183Well, that was interesting. Just turned over to ATR ready for the usual dire racing review and the race being shown in the Australia racing timeslot is the 4pm race from Aintree courtesy of Racing World Australia using RacingUK’s feed. I assume they were showing the whole Aintree meeting, but I wonder if RUK know that ATR are showing their exclusive Aintree coverage this way?
May 27, 2013 at 09:55 #440868Am I imagining it, or have ATR/Sky at last solved the annoying electronic interference/glitches that plagued the channel for the last year?
Definitely no sign of them for the past few days.
....and you've got to look a long way back for anything else.
May 27, 2013 at 21:43 #440968That’s a good spot about the interference. I was away for a few days and now you’ve mentioned it I haven’t seen any glitches since returning.
I even went on a SKY forum to try and get a solution to the problem (without any joy) so fingers crossed!!
I’m sure I saw a similar problem (briefly) on ITV HD tonight!! Could just have been a reaction to Britain’s Got Talent??!!
May 29, 2013 at 21:58 #441131"AT THE RACES has blamed the bad weather at the start of the year for a fall in the channels viewing figures for the first quarter of 2013."
The real reason of course is that they messed about with a format that didn’t need changing and made the whole channel less appealing to viewers who like to watch horse racing, rather than those that just like to bet on anything that moves.
Replacing the full Racing Review with repetitive "news" bulletins was a big mistake.
If the executives who made this shocking decision would swallow their pride, admit they were wrong and restore the old format, maybe viewers will return.
However, losing Ascot in a year won’t help. The looming threat of the return of Great Leighs isn’t going to save your bacon boys however much you try to hype it up.
....and you've got to look a long way back for anything else.
June 1, 2013 at 15:36 #441473To be fair, they’ve been using the new format since they moved studios back in June last year so I don’t think you can blame the drop in figures just on that.
This report seems to think they did pretty well:

I agree with you though. The New Bulletins are as boring and useless as they can be; most of the time they just seem to be trying to fill the 15 minute slot. Given that they have from 11am to the start of racing at around 2pm, that’s more than enough time to go over the rubbish they put on in the news. Bring back the proper race review is what I said.
June 1, 2013 at 17:17 #441495Not sure why you say figures are down the article says they are holding up and they are I have picked the first week in April for last three years which shows viewing figures are doing fine.

10 EVENING RACING (FRI 1734) 14June 12, 2013 at 08:44 #442562AARGH! They’re doing it again! On and on about Henry Cecil instead of showing the racing review. Yes, I know he’s one of the greats, but would they have gone on about Fulke-Walwyn, Fred Winter or Vincent O’Brien like this when they passed away? No.
Give us a break guys. You did nothing but do tributes all day yesterday inbetween the races and now you’re like a stuck record. There’s plenty of time to do it between 11am and when racing starts so drop this and get on with the Review of yesterday’s action. Not that anyone at ATR is likely to listen.

Totally agree. Whenever there’s a special feature the racing review suffers further cuts.
They had a 15 minute feature on Animal Kingdom on the 2nd, but why did it have to go out in the review slot? This resulted in the meeting from Worcester on the 1st being dropped.
Maybe they will show Fontwell at 10.15 tomorrow as they only have the two flat meetings to review tomorrow which will fit in the 9.15 – 9.57 slot.
Given their poor track record, more likely they will just show Yarmouth and Fairyhouse twice.

You were right espmadrid. Two runnings of Fairyhouse,I didn’t bother to check if they ran Yarmouth twice, just assumed that would be the case. They could have fitted in Fontwell and Roscommon from yesterday, but no. That would make too much sense and actually please their audience.
