What a shambles ATR was today good job most people were watching York on RUK first they lost the sound to Brighton race , then choas as Tralee was evacuated they missed the start of the first race when it resumed 45 minutes later had to have commentary from Gary O’Brein down a mobile phone as they had no pictures and Luke Harvey didnt have a clue what he was doing. I think they put him in there hoping for a quiet afternoon while everyone was on the other side watching York. Please ATR no more Luke Harvey in the booth hes useless. Good job York was on Racing UK I cant imagine what it would have been like on ATR. Get your act together ATR.

Steve, it was hardly ATR’s fault that there was a a bomb scare or whatever it was that caused an evacuation at Tralee.

ATR are in the main absolutely brilliant. Luke Harvey is a good guy who is just learning the ropes of live broadcasting on television. He didn’t make any mistakes yesterday – ATR would have rehearsed a schedule with him, and that schedule was thrown into chaos because of the events that unfolded. I am amazed that Luke Harvey is copping the blame because ATR had picture losses at Brighton and an evacuation at Tralee – believe me, that would have thrown many presenters off their stride.

    Mike

He made no mistakes were you watching the same channel they should not have someone doing a live three – four hour show who cant cope with the possibilities of problems arising you dont send someone to difuse a bomb if they havent any experience of it in the same way dont put someone on a live show until the have enough experience. They have plenty of people who can do the job when the main three are away like Compton, Cooper etc Im sorry you dont agree but ATR looked very poor yesterday and I never thought Id say this but Racing UK was extremely professionally presented yesterday by Mr Luck. Mr Harvey made loads of mistakes including carrying on rabbiting when the horses had jumped off.

Your views are extremely harsh Steve. What happened on Tuesday was extremely unfortunate – Luke did the best he can in a ‘no win’ situation – on how many other occassions have you had to knock him?

Do you think ATR’s move of putting Sir Bob in the Booth is any better than putting Luke in – for crying out loud, ‘Get On’ is an interactive show, yet Sir Bob doesn’t even know what the word email or text means bless him – yet I have seen no words against this guy.

Lighten up Steve, it was unforseen circumstances and if mistakes were made then they can easily be brushed aside and forgiven – there is absolutely no need to slate the presenter on role, or the broadcasters, as in general ATR are miles ahead of the opposition in my opinion – and judging by the fact that you watched the coverage all day (when York was on RUK and CH.4) then I have a feeling that you think likewise.

Im entitled to my opinion same as is everyone else who critisises Dave Smith, Tommo and Matt Chapman and I am a massive ATR supporter its the first time I think Racing UK has been better in my mind. I am pefectly entitled in a country of free speech to say I didnt like Mr Harvey or the way ATR coped on Tuesday and will continue to voice my opinions as and when I see fit.

I would like to say what a brilliant job Dale McKeown last night during the problems with Newton Abbot and US commentary he kept it together brilliantly and managed to talk throughout the N Abbot races perhaps Mr Harvey should watch a tape of this and learn.

As a frequent visitor to the racingforum chatroom i felt compelled to apologise for my performance in the betting booth on Tuesday.
When i was handed a running order it was i admit very short sighted of me not to realise that there would be a bomb scare at Tralee. A basic school boy error!
In hindsight it was obvious some joker was going to pretend to plant a bomb and i should have made provisions.
I’m also gutted your entertainment was interupted when racing was delayed but i hear from the course the next time something like this happens they will carry on regardless.
Feeling almost suicidal in the booth we then had problems with the sound at Brighton – any close relation to mystic meg, would surely of realised this would happen – being the nice sunny day that it was, and again made alternative arrangements.
And my attempt at commentating well that was a joke. I appreciate with the 3.2 seconds i had to study the form for my first attempt was pathetic.
Once again steve i am so sorry but i have got a good idea why don’t you post me your show reel and i can get some tips on broadcasting.
Yours a very depressed luke harvey

Very mature I dont do the job because I couldnt if you cant do the job like Mr Harvey dont do it. Im colour blind so even if i wanted to I couldnt commentate so I dont try. Perhaps if you are so depressed you will do me the honour of staying off my screen until the Prozacs kicked in. Have a word with Mr McKeown he knows how to cope in a crisis.

Welcome to the forum Luke :D Don’t be too depressed as Steve is very much a lone voice. As I said previously anyone is better than Chapman, can you imagine the song and dance he would have made of the situation :?:

Incidentally was Katabatic the best horse you have ever ridden Luke? Did he have more class than Cool Ground?

    Hi yeats
Don’t worry i’m not very delicate and don’t mind constructive criticism. Like a jockey if you can’t take criticism you shouldn’t attempt broadcasting and i give other people enough stick so should expect to take a certain amount myself.

Don’t expect me to post on a regular basis but i’ll continue to read and enjoy the banta.
Although Cool Ground won the Gold Cup Katabatic was different gravy. Not alot of people realise that he suffered from severe lung infections other wise he would have been even better. He was class and had gears that average horses could only dream of. A pleasure to ride !

Too damned right you are entitled to you opinion, and I for one would never try and stop anyone from having their own opinion – but likewise, I am entitled to my opinion, and my opinion is you were being harsh – it’s not the end of the world, it doesn’t mean I am disrespectng you, in fact all it means is I have a different opinion to you

But what happened on Tuesday, well you just don’t plan for that no matter which presenter is in the booth.

You mentioned Robert Cooper in a positive sense – yet when he is in the Booth he is appalling in my opinion, far worse than Luke ever is, yet Sir Bob didn’t have loss of pictures, evacuations etc to deal with. Like I said earlier, he doesn’t know what email or texts are, you can see him just waiting for his producers to tell him what is next down his ear piece etc – he is very shabby. But like Luke, when you put him on a Racecourse as a presenter he is fantastic, knowledgable and fun to watch.

Maybe the lesson is stick to Chapman, Boycee or Enzo as the main booth presenters during the day.

    All the best,

    Mike

    Hello Luke,

Andy Turnell was, is and always will be my racing hero. I had the biggest punt of my life on you and Country Member to win the National. When you and the horse parted company at the first I had no sleep for a week, night after night contemplating whether to hunt you down to murder you in excruciating fashion!

As you will have gathered eventually I forgave you!

All the best and have a nice day!

ps. Are you sharing this username withe Simon McNeill?

    Luke,

Sorry, I hadn’t realised you were participating on the forum so my defence of you was not because you were here

Racing hasn’t started yet, but you have already gave me the highlight of the day – that was when you interviewed those 2 Chinese kids at Stratford today  – you asked them if this was the first time they had been racing, they gave you about 100 words of broken English as a reply – to which you responded by saying ‘yes’

    Great stuff,

    Mike

Well hello there Luke – is there anywhere I go where I don’t come across you my dear?! (clue – you accused me a few days ago of "getting around a bit" – worked out who it is now?! Newbury, I believe it was….)

You give back as good as you get – lets face it, you’ve never been shy with the ripostes before!!

Nice to have presenters on but do we need the lovey bit, yes Mr Harvey is on but lets not get all gushy and start being sickly sweet(incidentally how do we know its him). We should still give honest opinions if Mr Hoiles was to start messing things up we shouldnt be gushing just becuase he contributes. If Mr Chapman was on here I wonder how many would suddenly start gushing.

I don’t think it’s so much gushing as showing them some respect, and welcoming them to the forum.

Exactly right, BH – nobody’s said they’re Luke Harvey, Lydia Hislop, Paul Haigh, Barry Dennis, Lee McKenzie or Richard Hoilles’ greatest fans in the world ever ever ever on the occasions that these personalities have posted; nor is it the sort of thing that they come on the Forums specifically to see. All the salutations to Luke in this thread so far have been suitably courteous rather than unsuitably oleagenous.

Oh grow up, Steveh. I stuck up for Luke before anyone appeared professing to be him – and for your information I’ve known the guy for nearly ten years now anyway.

I can also assure you if anyone turned up on here professing to be Chapman there is no way in this world I would be gushing towards the idiot…

Just because you have known Luke for 10 years doesnt mean he cant be criticised, Im sure hes a nice person to know but he come across as very sickly everybodys friend I know everyone and they like me and as I have said before im entitled to say what I feel. I think Luke should stick to reporting from tracks as he gets good interviews, his partnership with Emily Jones is excellent but he should stay away from booth presenting until he has a bit more confidence.
Telling someone to grow up is a good sign you havent a good argument like resorting to swearing and raising your voice to win an argument.

Booth may be full of guest presenters this week as Tony Ennis is getting married, Boyce appears to be on holiday could be a Chapman overtime fest.

Incidentally anyone know what happened to Steve Watts he just disppeared from ATR
