Let’s hope that this sees an end to these vile rightwing bigots.
October 6, 2022 at 19:46 #1617587I’ve never forgiven Elton John for making my lovely friend Anna cry on The Independent On Sunday in the 1990s, but for once I hope old toupee features is on the winning side: “Saturday Night’s alright for fighting….”

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"October 6, 2022 at 19:48 #1617588They must surely have good evidence to go ahead with this. Fingers crossed.
October 6, 2022 at 20:11 #1617597Due process must be followed, innocent until proven guilty and all that.
Still, I hope they get taken to the f***ing cleaners.
October 6, 2022 at 21:49 #1617606Breaking news….the entire Daily Mail readership last night simultaneously died of old age peacefully in their sleep and the circulation has dropped to zero.
Does anyone under the age of 70 read it?
The day is surely impending.

Yep, i do.
It’s a really boring, lazy narrative for Lefties to keep having a pop, but hey-ho.October 6, 2022 at 21:56 #1617612How old are you, please, Wilts?

Expect the attacks on those taking action to be ramped up in the coming weeks and months, especially Harry (if that’s even possible).
October 6, 2022 at 22:24 #1617617“Why would I care about that? Why would ANYONE care about that?”
From footballers wives taking each other to court to endless trashing of a former royal couple, the above is my standard reaction to so many Daily Mail “stories.”

From the outside it’s mostly outrage and bile. I genuinely cannot imagine getting up every morning and spending time and money on what appears to be anger and hatred.
October 7, 2022 at 00:56 #1617640Hi Ian
60 last December.

No need for the likes of cheap comments in here, guys.October 7, 2022 at 03:50 #1617643“No need for the likes of cheap comments in here, guys.”
Says the man who frequently tars all of “the left” with the same brush.

I agree, and I am also aware broadly centre-left active posters here outnumber centre-right ones since a few departures this year, though some might (wrongly IMO) argue that’s a state of affairs I have contributed towards, it’s not a situation I welcome as I don’t relish being part of pile ons in debates.
But this is now the most right wing Tory government I can remember – Thatcher included – and the nastiest I can remember the Mail being too, and I worked in newspapers 1984-2001.
I don’t think the comment about the Mail is unwarranted tbh.
We are the same age roughly, Wilts – I doubt if there are many Mail readers younger than us and I suspect a great many of them are older than us.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"October 7, 2022 at 06:20 #1617646I have not seen the Mail for some time. I occasionally found it useful during the toilet paper famine of a couple of years ago.
I've stumbled on the side of twelve misty mountains
I've walked and I crawled on six crooked highwaysOctober 7, 2022 at 07:34 #1617652Let me give you an example of how the Mail works. A few months ago they ran a front page telling us that there was a plan for cyclists to require a number plate and insurance in much the same way car drivers do. It’s completely unworkable and will not be happening any time soon and almost certainly never. It was a vague plan at best so what on Earth was it doing on the front page, especially at a time of increasing crisis for the country?
It’s partly distraction of course, many of the issues facing the country have been exacerbated if not outright caused by the government they so loudly champion. But so what? Mail supports Tories, big deal, we know.
Its main purpose is to demonise cyclists, for reasons I don’t know. It’s designed to get people to focus their hate on what is quite a large group of people who mostly are doing no harm to anyone, in fact they are helping by taking a car off the road and not belting out pollution or at the very least getting some exercise. (I say this as someone who does drive and does not cycle). I’ll bet they’ve rarely, if ever, mentioned this so called ‘plan’ since becuase some readers got wound up about cyclists so job done.
That’s one example of why I despise the publication. I have others, none of which are ‘becuase it’s right wing’.

A classic “tu quoque”…
A great way to validate Wilts’s argument…
October 7, 2022 at 11:11 #1617662A tu quoque statement does not automatically mean that the argument is invalid, as anyone with even cursory knowledge of the law would understand.
