To be fair, any jockey could have won on Fame and Glory today.
Much too classy for the rest.
Even at this stage 3/1 looks big for next year’s Gold Cup

June 16, 2011 at 15:18 #360985Well done team Ballydoyle. Fame And Glory back to form with a bang. Spencer at his best. May be Opinion Poll could have been a touch closer coming around the turn, but made no difference. He is a hold up horse and the positioning was to be expected. Winner I thought going away again near the line. My anti-post winning bet in the end cost me a four figure sum!
Value Is EverythingJune 16, 2011 at 15:21 #360987Certainly not anyone….he switched the horse off and thats why it took so long for him to hit top gear IMO. I have been a major critic of Spencer but that was just perfect from start to finish.
Nice to see him show some emotion as-well after.

Totally agree.
Value Is EverythingJune 16, 2011 at 15:34 #360991Fame And Glory landed me my Ascot treble so delighted obviously. Far too good for the rest and a top class ride from Spencer. This is the type of jockey Frankel needs.
Wasn’t a great Ascot Gold Cup but you can only beat what is in front of you and Fame And Glory did it really well.

Agreed, if he gets there in one piece he will be odds on for sure.

June 16, 2011 at 18:25 #361023Yeah I would’ve thought Sizing Europe, Fame and Glory and Barcelona are all fantastic, nailed-on ante-post bets that rely purely on injury.

What a shocking time, theres no way Fame And Glory will be winning another Ascot Gold Cup on that evidence.
I suspect everything was hunky dory untill Geordieland collapsed and it was a crawl from there on where his class and turn of foot prevailed.
He’s probably run a 1m4f race not a 2m4f race, although the stud book won’t show that anyhow I’d take him on all day long next year especially with Rite of Passage or anything else that pops up in the mean time.
June 16, 2011 at 21:00 #361050Anyone of the time experts on here know how much difference the soft ground made to the time?
I’d fancy Rite Of Passage to give him a fright too!
June 16, 2011 at 21:04 #361052The horse would be better off a quicker pace I reckon, stays all day and night. Listen, if only he could jump he’d win a Grand National………..

June 16, 2011 at 21:52 #361064Age Of Aquarius almost beat Rite Of Passage in the Gold Cup and Fame And Glory was in another league to Age Of Aquarius.
Still the same people on here crying about Fame ANd Glory not being good enough.

God use your brain, they crawled for 1m4f until Geordieland went crazy. Its the rest of the field that are to blame for not really testing his stamina. Fame And Glory had an easy race really.

I know, ridiculous isn’t it. His parents and grandparents all got 12f+ and people still saying he doesn’t stay. Incredible. He was a cert on breeding and I said it several times on here.
June 16, 2011 at 22:26 #361077He doesn’t have to stay, he is so far superior to the rest with a trainer than knows the race inside out that he can go back every year and win if they want.
June 17, 2011 at 13:25 #361191Fame And Glory has come in for so much unnecessary criticism over the years – it’s nice to see him gain some long overdue recognistion after his Gold Cup success.
This will be his fourth season competing at the highest level, and he has won at least one Group One every year since his 2YO campaign.
He has proven himself to be a most courageous, talented and consistent horse, and he must have a wonderful temperament.
He was by far the ‘speediest’ horse in the race yesterday and, if anything, would have appreciated going a shade quicker.
Over this trip, there is simply nothing out there that can take him out of his comfort zone.
He is arguably a more talented horse than Yeats and could quite easily add to yesterdays success. There’s no doubt he has both the physical and mental attributes to try and emulate his former stable companion.
June 17, 2011 at 14:17 #361197Best horse in the race won. Another deserved Gp1 win.
What I would say is however, what were the other jockeys doing? Knowing there was a ‘doubt’ about his stamina – they crawled the first mile – then quickened up when Geordieland went to the front.
I’d say there were stamina doubts about many of the field – so nobody wanted to go on and make it a thorough test. - AuthorPosts
