Well I’m sure any people that look at breeding will disagree with you. He looks like he’s too slow now even for 1m 6f. A satisfactory trial, far from impressive, but he travelled very well. Nebula Storm couldn’t move forward from last time, but Rite of Passage was off the bridle very early but stayed on very well. However, he’s won every single time he’s been fresh, so I’m not certain he’ll move forward from this. Fame and Glory we can be certain will move forward to his next race and will appreciate a longer trip.

I’d imagine a RFC there with those 2 would be close to a certainty, which you could double up with a RFC in the Queen Anne with the front 2.

Not a breeding person, Zark, but none of his siblings stayed 2 miles and his dam only proven at 1m. On racecourse performance the horse is just a boat, and I wouldn’t have him on my mind for the Gold Cup.
Whoever sold him and Cape Blanco for £7,000,000 deserves a medal the size of a dustbin lid, imo.

Yes the Hay’s would not be the smartest Horse Racing people…the fact that they keep sending big money yearlings to Paul Cole is a obvious example their don’t seem to be very shrewd.

Fame and Glory needs to be ridden up closer to the pace…they keep holding him up and the fact is he is not quick as he used to be. Just keep him off the pace and then send him on before Tat corner and run the kick/stamina out of the rest of them. Murtagh would be perfect for this type of ride…he rides Ascot exceptionally. I think he stay i just feel they are riding the wrong way

I backed Right of Passage this morning at 4s with Ladrokes, home from work and see he is now 11/4 – very pleased. Watching the race, very much doubt Fame and Glory stays 2 and a half miles. And if there is ever a trainer you trust to get the horse right on the day – it’s Dermot Weld.

Well we’ve got stamina on the sire’s side. Montjeu obviously by Sadler’s Wells who’s been very successful over the jumps as well. Montaff, Askar Tau and Honolulu are all extreme stayers, while several others such as Scorpion, Motivator, Harris Tweed who need/needed 12f minimum.

His half-sister Grampian finished 2nd over 14f, and she was by Selkirk who obviously has far less stamina in his pedigree than Fame and Glory, Montjeu or Sadler’s Wells.

Gryada’s by Shirley Heights, a Derby winner, and out of Grimpola, whose full brother won over 12f. Grimpola’s sire was Windwurf, winner of the German St. Leger.

There’s plenty of stamina in there.

I think Fame and Glory looks like he will stay. I’ll leave the breeding angles the people with more knowledge than me, but its not an exact science anyway so is best used only a guide really. Ballydoyle seem to think he’ll stay, and they have been correct previously with Yeats and AoA, who both had similar stamina doubts.

Fame and Glory and Duncan are the class horses in the race for mine – i don’t fancy Rite of Passage at all, this year looks a stronger renewal than last seaosn. AoA stayed ok last season, but he wouldn’t be as good over middle distances as Yeats or FAG.

I’ve backed FAG pretty confidently, as Duncan is unreliable and wasn’t as good as FAG over middle distances anyway.

If he runs in it, Cavalryman looks a very interesting runner to me. Though I think Rite of Passage is perhaps underestimated. I believe he’s a grandson of Dahlia.

Did he win it last because he was similar class but a shade more dogged at the end of the race than Age of Aquarious? If so, will it be the same story again.

Blue Bajan is an ew steal. He’s in EXCELLENT form (excuse the capitals but they’re necessary!), trainer is ploughing through them (races), most likely to stay the trip and has some class hurdles form in the book – he has class. Duncan beat him over 14f….lets go another 10f and see if Duncan beats him again!

If a horse like Duncan or should i state Donkey can win a Gold Cup i am a china man.

Hopefully Fame and Glory will win this race. Anything else would be a massive disappointment.

Will F+G stay…..i think they should ride from the front slow it down and make a sprint finish. If someone like Ryan Moore was on board i be more confident but Spencer????? . Your guess is as good as mine.

    I love Kasbah Bliss.
Failed miserably in last year’s edition which puzzled trainer and jockey. They’ve changed the prep by skipping the lead-up race to go straight here with a fresh horse. In fantastic form this year, was unlucky not to win last race and before that beat Gentoo and others, and before that closed off better than anything over 12f in Dubai.

I’m keen on the chance of Webber’s Australia Day. He seems to be very well-weighted, and there’s been some money for him today.

Sorry! I was getting muddled up with the Ascot Stakes!!!! And even got that wrong.
