For the Grandstand – will we be okay in shirt and trousers?
Website just says:
Grandstand Admission
Grandstand Admission provides excellent facilities and viewing areas at ground level. The Parade Ring and track are both within a short walking distance, by crossing the Concourse in the main Grandstand. There are a variety of places to eat, drink and bet – from the bookmakers in the betting ring to the totepool and betting shops in the main Grandstand. Customers in this area do not have access to any of the levels on the upper floors. However, there is the opportunity to upgrade your ticket on the raceday from a Grandstand Admission ticket to a Premier Admission ticket if you would prefer to use the facilities that are on Level 4, subject to availability.
All accompanied children aged 16 and under have FREE entry to the racecourse. There is no need to purchase a ticket however proof of age may be required.Grandstand Admission Dress Code
Whilst we encourage racegoers to wear smart clothes no formal dress code applies except that bare chests are not permitted at any time.July 22, 2010 at 14:04 #307914In either enclosure; no jeans, no trainers, no sportswear, no football shirts, no Slipknot t-shirts and you will be fine.
Their website prattles on about ladies wearing cocktail dresses and hats and gentlemen jacket and tie but that’s just them trying to pomp the occasion up because the racecourse has an inflated opinion of its status. We all know it’s really the Wolverhampton of the saaf.

So is it officially ‘no jeans’ – as I am going with 17 people and I’m positive one will probably wear jeans!
Surely it would say ‘no jeans’ in the dress policy?
July 22, 2010 at 14:29 #307918I went to this meeting (members) in a designer suit
15 years ago, but had no tie on and an official with one of those silly hats on told me I had to wear a tie
to get in, so I was forced into buying some horrible
plain Dark brown one, honestly, you couldn’t have worn a more horrible oneI took it off once I was in the bar and they told
Me to put it on againJuly 22, 2010 at 15:03 #307926I went to this meeting (members) in a designer suit
15 years agoMatthew – I had you down as about 17, this (plus teh bar reference) makes you at least 33!!!

He obviously hasn’t grown up yet!
Matthew, just ring "Ascot" if in doubt – they won’t bite.

Hahaha…
I’ve spoken to them today, only grandstand tickets are available now, members sold out and you can wear what you like in the grandstand.I really wanted to go in the members though, there’s no upgrading when you get there.
The only alternative is to buy off touts outside.
July 22, 2010 at 16:19 #307939Matthew, get yourself to the pub, get lashed, and watch the racing that way. Much better than going to Ascot, especially if you’re after birds and booze
And I think Ken’s two posts on this thead were lighthearted comments – the reason I say that is because I laughed my t!ts off at them. Well done Ken
On a serious note Matthew, if you’re going to Ascot on Saturday then just dress comfortably (as long it’s within Ascot’s dress code). It can be a long day and it’s probably going to be very humid, especially in those queues for the bar.
One bit of advice though, make sure you take a condom. The last thing we want is Matthew Jnr also having a go at Fallon in 20 years time

Please convey my best regards to Nathan Hughes, Matthew, and tell him I’m sorry to hear he’s been going through such lean times since Natalie went independent.
ThanksJuly 22, 2010 at 16:31 #307941Matthew, get yourself to the pub, get lashed, and watch the racing that way. Much better than going to Ascot, especially if you’re after birds and booze

I’m deffo going Sat, looking forward to it and shall be shouting Workforce home, go my son
July 22, 2010 at 23:30 #308012Had a look at the card/decs for Saturday and to be honest, other than the King George, I wasn’t overly impressed with the quality there.
I’m still looking forward to it though, shame the boys in blue aren’t represented and there’s no dettori either.
July 23, 2010 at 00:22 #308017Must admit the clothing issue is something that pisses me off about racing
Despite what the adage says Clothes dont maketh man!!!
complete and utter tosh!!!
July 23, 2010 at 05:09 #308023Last summer I decided on whim to go to an evening meeting at Leicester because it was a lovely evening but I hdn’t realised it was ladies night. Everyone was in posh frocks and stilettos and I was in my jeans and a t-shirt. I felt such a pillock

July 23, 2010 at 08:37 #308034This is not meant to be a snobby remark, but I think Ascot are very tolerant (sometimes too much so) about what they allow men to wear in the Premier enclosure.
It may be different for the Royal meeting which I don’t go to, but for other flat meetings like the QE2 & Shergar Cup etc. I think it can be very relaxed, both in dress code and in some cases behaviour as well.
Naturally some people do like to dress up, but the idea that it’s elitest at these meetings is not the case. You can sometimes feel a bit over-dressed in a suit & tie.

Yeah I agree, the girl said to me yesterday that in the grandstand you can wear a vest, shorts and flip flops if you want I like the idea of dressing up a bit tbh.
