Arsene Wenger has set his current squad the target of emulating the heroics of Arsenal’s ‘Invincibles’ side.

Wenger’s class of 2003-04 has been voted the greatest team of the era as part of the Premier League’s celebrations of the last 20 seasons.

Arsenal ended that season unbeaten in the top flight as they cruised to the title with an 11-point winning margin.

"My target is to get back to that, to get back to that level," said Gunners manager Wenger.

Meanwhile, at the other end of the table, Liverpool’s new manager Brendan Rogers is hoping Liverpool can emulate the performance of Norwich last season and has set a minimum target of 40pts and another run in the cup that nobody cares about.

Why can’t Arsene gracefully accept that his and his club’s day in the sun has long passed? So long as Man City and Chelsea are around, Arsenal will never again get to sniff at the title let alone go a season undefeated.

With the squad Mancini has, Man City could very feasibly have been ‘Invincibles’. Unfortunately, the man still insists on playing for draws and showing infinite patience for classless shits such as Kolo Toure, Tevez and Balotelli.

Incidentally, I think if Wenger could snag Džeko and keep RVP then Arsenal would be a most formidable force going forward.

Arsenal’s "current squad" going 38 games unbeaten is the most laughable thing we’ve heard in 2012. A squad with no success, a squad were 99% of the players have never lifted a trophy at Arsenal.

If arsenal are to actually go forward as a club they need to replace the class they’ve lost. Arsene Wenger has got to be the most blind manager in the league, when you sell players of Fabregas and nasri’s calibre you need to have replacements before the deals were done, but oh yeah he left it till they had months left on their contracts.

Here goes to another season without success for Arsenal, how many years now 7? 8? at this rate it will take an eternity to even come close to the most successful team in English football… yes Liverpool! 41 honours compared to arsenals 27 including FIVE European cups :P.

Podolski and RVP does look a good partnership for 12/13 season, HAVE to keep RVP first though.

I agree 100% that the 03/04 Arsenal side is the greatest Premier League team. That side for that year would also be close if not the best English top flight side of all time*.

    *European football exclude.

side note, well played in getting a 0 on a rest week in the daylight cup, jammy sod………

It’s all about the timing, still unbeaten

Still, with Arsenal the most succesful top flight league team of last century and the best team of the premier league, just a bit of tweaking with the team and the two Manchesters who are the only competition to them at domestic league level now will be within reach.

And then the snowballing starts, Invincibles again :D

Surly the European champions and best team in London are in competition for the title?

Makes me laugh out loud when Arsenal fans are so ashamed of their team they have to make up statistics, how are Arsenal the best premier league team (definitely man utd with 12) and the most successful English team in the last century? (definitely Liverpool with 18 and 5 EC).

It’s a fact and I agree that 03/04 squad was the best in Premier league history but to say Arsenal are the most successful team in English history is a joke like Arsenal’s chances of ever winning a continental trophy.

Next time come back with some indisputable facts, and saying Liverpool have never won the Premiership can be countered with Arsenal have never won the champions league.

by the way who would you like to see sign for Arsenal in next window? Yann M’vila would be a great move and Alan Dzagoev could offer something different both are young and fit the profile of who Wenger likes.

Also heard Oliver Giroud is en route to Arsenal, was immense for Montpellier last season and the one before that and at 25 should be at the pinnacle of his career.

"My target is to get back to that, to get back to that level," said Gunners manager Wenger.

So Wenger is saying what I’ve told you, that Arsenal have not been at it for 8 years. If you forget that season of 03/04 and look at Arsenal’s record before that year then the record after that year you cant really argue that they gone backwards ever since.

Podolski, Giroud & Dzagoev could all be great additions, the main thing is the team is being added to now rather than later.

As they were the greatest premier team ever in 03/04 it’s inevitable that they and everyone else will have played worse since then and before then as nobody could be better.

Next season is looking good as apart from Arsenal and United who are the only two teams to have constantly competed for the PL, other than the newest johnny-come-lately no history arab boy-toys City, there looks like being a noticeable gap between these top 3 and the rest.

Spurs are now doomed having shed the man who took them from bottom to CL football and it won’t be a surprise if Bale, Modric, VDV, Adebayor and others decide to follow him out the door, not looking good for ambitions at the Lane.

Chelsea have doomed themselves appointing DM for two years, not that they were top 4 material any more and luck in cups doesn’t last forever.

Liverpool can only hope to regain the best team in merseyside title if Moyes goes and with a championship manager will be hoping for no more than finishing in the top half.

Newcastle batted way above their level last year and while they could be in the mix for 4th they could just as easily fall away again.

Top 3, gap to also rans, gap to mid-table mediocrity and another gap the relegation battle, that’s next year sorted.
