I was thinking there was already a thread for this race, because I wanted to read it to find out who is likely to run.
I do so hope this race goes ahead – there are questions marks about all bar a couple of the entries.
I am amazed the going is described as Good to Soft at the moment.
I won’t bother putting up the entries until the weights are clarified tomorrow.
If Air Force One is already jocked up, does that mean he is a probable runner, or has it just been done because they know who the jockey would be if he did run?
PS The Novices’ Chase at 1.40 looks a cracker.

February 6, 2009 at 01:50 #208381Edit: IGNORE THIS – JUST NOTICED STORY WAS DATED 30 JAN !
Denman had a racecourse gallop at Wincanton this morning, but I can’t find the story to put the link here. Ridden by Walsh. I think Thomas was on Neptune Collonges.
Would that mean he’s not running on Saturday, or does it depend how far he went at what pace?
I was thinking yesterday that the race would be a bog, and Denman would pull out.
The 4 runner suggestion was only half-serious, or maybe half-joking.
February 6, 2009 at 01:52 #208382Just remembered – I was drinking yesterday evening.
February 6, 2009 at 03:12 #208393Haha no worries Gerald.
I really want Newbury to be on on Saturday. Will be very disappointing to see another massive race day fall foul of the weather.
Very pleased I decided against going to Leopardstown for the Hennesy meeting. Mightve cost me a bit too much for a non-event travelling from here in London!
February 6, 2009 at 21:35 #10190Does anyone have any clues here? I’d have thought Albertas Run would be a good choice, if he can cope with the going.
I’m not happy with having a bet on Joe Lively here, though I was happy to have 9/1 at muddier Newbury.

February 6, 2009 at 22:05 #208527I think its a really difficult race to call. Albertas Run is best on goodish ground, even then he strikes me as the type that you have to catch right. Kempton wouldn’t be Denman’s ideal track at all and lets face it how much confidence can you currently back Denman with? We just don’t know how he is going to be..
Joe Lively is an interesting one. Kempton can suit front runners and the soft ground will hold no fears for him. Maybe he’s the one to be on?
Its hard to get excited by any of the others.
February 6, 2009 at 22:25 #208533I think
Denman
will win it fairly comfortably. He wouldn’t be out on the track if he wasn’t in very good shape. 4/7 seems a good price, because he can front run aswell which is a bonus for Kempton, and he will like the ground.
February 6, 2009 at 22:32 #208536If he is in very good shape, then at least we get an answer to the wonderful question "What would happen if Denman ran in the King George?"
February 6, 2009 at 22:45 #208539Looking through Albertas Runs form he’s won several times on soft ground over hurdles and in bumpers so maybe its a myth that he needs good ground. Perhaps he’s just the type of horse that sometimes is in the mood and sometimes isn’t?

Kempton wouldn’t be Deman’s ideal course, but his jumping ability, and the soft ground, will more than negate any deficiency.Considering he is a stone and a half superior to the others, 4/7 may well look like finding money in the street by tomorrow evening.
February 6, 2009 at 23:30 #208546For me Denman is a lay tomorrow.
Coming back of an almost 11 month break, not knowing if he is fully fit or fully recovered from his heart problems and a seemingly unsuitable track tomorrow is the time, for me, to get him.
As for the winner I fancy Joe Lively and have had an investment at 6/1. Has course and distance form and will love the going.

.
Completely agree. Giving weight to most of the field as well. Put all the combinations together and its going to take the "real" Denman to come out on top tomorrow.
