Bit of a moratorium on here re the ailing classic winner. No doubt there will be on this too
Clearing out a tool box I found a Sun racing page from late November 1988.
It showed a Trainer Form table listing the top 15 by number of winners at that stage.Pipe 65
Stephenson 23
Gifford 21
Richards 21
Edwards 18
… Jonjo in 15th place with 12Can you name the two Lambourn trainers in the top 15 ? (One was on the 17 winner mark, the other on 14)
November 7, 2016 at 22:16 #1271320I will give some clues because it seems people are not up on their racing history.
A filly trained in Newmarket. She won a classic with a hole in her head.
I will add to the clues.November 10, 2016 at 15:52 #1271740Was it ” Happy Laughter ” trained by Jarvis

Could the two trainers be Jenny Pitman & Oliver Sherwood?
Best Wishes
SilkNovember 11, 2016 at 21:56 #1272049Yes Rusty Rails, the filly was Happy Laughter. She had a bad sinus infection at the end of her two year old career and over the winter, she had two operations and was given antibiotics, which were uncommon in equine medicine at the time. She won the 1000 Guineas in 1953, when she ran second in the Free Handicap she still had a hole in her head and photographs clearly show it.
She only had one living produce, a filly Arnisdale.November 12, 2016 at 00:05 #1272083Not Pitman or Sherwood Silk. I thought they would have featured too
November 14, 2016 at 18:31 #1272665Charlie Brooks and Kim Bailey ?
November 15, 2016 at 00:36 #1272714Correct with Brooks DG, think it was the first season Uplands had him as the named trainer. Bailey didn’t feature and had not arrived in Lambourn at that point.
The remaining trainer had plenty of good horses although most had moved to other yards before their biggest wins. He’d enjoyed a good start to the season with 14 wins from 30 runners
November 16, 2016 at 21:47 #1272949Further clue, one of the better horses the trainer did manage to hold on to was Rowlandsons Jewels
November 17, 2016 at 06:19 #1272968David Murray Smith.
Assuming that I’m right I’ll ask one.
Name Bustino’s 2 pacemakers in the 1975 King George duel with Grundy.
November 18, 2016 at 22:47 #1273243Correct assumption PPG, well done.
Highest and Kinglet
November 24, 2016 at 06:15 #1273996You’re correct Pilgarlic. Over to you.
November 28, 2016 at 23:44 #1274953Thanks PPG

November 30, 2016 at 14:28 #1275081Hi Dadofjess
The one I had in mind was Trevor Kersey but since Chris Thornton was involved on the Spigot Lodge programmes I think that should be accepted as correct. Well done sir, over to you.
