August 23, 2012 at 18:57 #410691Any one else hazard a guess or shall I reveal the answer?
August 23, 2012 at 21:52 #410713Give it time ivanjica, there’s no rush on threads like this. I’ve seen questions last 4 or 5 weeks on some forums, someone usually comes up with the answer sooner or later

Did Ogden own Florida Pearl’s sire Florida Son when he raced?

Spot on Yeats. He carried the Ogden silks in the 1982 Epsom Derby!
Over to you.
August 24, 2012 at 08:29 #410753Which comedian, still going strong today owned a horse called Asa Yolson that ran unplaced in Empery’s 1976 Epsom Derby?
August 24, 2012 at 17:42 #410838Jimmy Tarbuck is the only one that I can think of that was interested in racing and still going, apart from F. Starr!
August 24, 2012 at 18:47 #410852Well thought out reetlass, your go
August 25, 2012 at 10:21 #410957Sorry if this is not too difficult for you.
Which horse won the 2 Mile Champion Chase by a big margin and then ran 3rd in the Champion Hurdle next day?

That would be Flyingbolt… (massive apologies if it isn’t!)
Which horse in the nineties started favourite for a classic trial as a three year old before later going on to collect prize money in the Two Mile Champion Chase?
August 25, 2012 at 18:32 #410998Correct BH
It is quite surprising that a horse of Flyingbolt’s talent has no memorial other than a race named after him in Ireland (can’t remember the course). In his day he was rated almost the equivalent of Arkle.
An odd thing that I remember about him was that as a yearling he had a donkey mare as a paddock companion and he succeeded in getting her in foal!
August 25, 2012 at 19:36 #411009Flyingbolt Novice Chase ran at Navan in Feb
Donnas Palm was the 2012 winnerAlthough don’t think that qualifies me to ask a question though
August 25, 2012 at 21:29 #411023Thanks for that FR. Have a crack at answering BH’s question and if you’re right you will set the next one. Good luck
August 25, 2012 at 22:50 #411028Flyingbolt was also conceived oddly. His sire, the 1946 Derby winner Airborne had been retired from stud duties as infertile & was running with a long barren mare called Eastlock. The two obviously got it together & the result was Flyingbolt.

Green Green Desert – 11/4f for the 1994 Craven?
I had backed him on debut in his Newmarket back end maiden in 1993, when he made a withering swoop to victory, from last to first. Visually deeply impressive, and I spent that winter dreaming of collecting on him for the Guineas – as I recall he was a Timeform Horse to Follow in their annual pamphlet.
How naive! I have learnt a lot since then, which has probably made me over cynical about impressive performances that are yet to be franked by collateral form. Which no doubt led to me taking until the 2011 Sussex Stakes to properly buy into Frankel.
Anyway, it didn’t stop me following his NH career very closely, firstly under Oliver Sherwood’s tutelage and then the burgeoning West Country talent of Paul Nicholls. He became a firm favourite of racing fans due to his quirks, and on his day was a joy to behold.
Apart from all that he also provided Lester Piggott with a ride at Newmarket one day, and even the old master couldn’t get him to supplement his Newmarket debut victory.
A legend!!
Over to you "freeradical".

Thanks for the info Crepello. I love little tales like that. Bit of a lesson for all of us – just when you think you’re safe?
