Quite why there are no female jockeys invited at the onset is beyond me and goes to show how backward the people who “promote” are sport are. I presume the winners in this will be given vast sums of money for their contribution in pushing the sport to a wider audience B-)

The more I know the less I understand.

    A fresh audience

I like it “a fresh audience” much better than the “attracting new people to the sport” spill

    Load of crap, again.

Are they pushing the idea to the wider audience that turned up at various racecourses to see Dettori ride there ‘for the last time’?

Well, given the huge success of the Racing League in attracting massive crowds and high betting turnover to the benefit of racing, what could possibly go wrong with extending the same concept globally.

If they can just keep the sheep off the track and avoid the weighing room catching fire, this looks guaranteed to be a success.

But don’t tell everybody, the inspiration for this actually came from the latest Enid Blyton offering, Five Go To The Shergar Cup.

“With jockeys at the heart of an initiative that will be heavily media driven, the league’s races will not be framed to attract the sport’s best horses or compete with existing Pattern races”

I’m all for jockeys getting paid their due (and of course they’re going to be ‘excited’ about this league that will add to the pension) but how does this benefit the sport? We need to get people interested in the puzzle of the game, the formbook, the multitude of opinions about any single race or piece of form that that when you get it right it will give you that ‘buzz’ and when you get it wrong you go back through and find out why you got it wrong.

Find a way to simplify the form game to those who are turned off by the immediate complexities of it and focus on what it is. A game. A battle of wits against the bookies, against other human people, against your own sanity.

    Not this nonsense.

    Good post Chivers,

Old is what gives the sport its appeal. The Derby for example

Hearing a reference to F1 on the Nick Luck Daily gave the game away. Don’t try and copy a sport that bores many witless. What next 54 lap horse races and a starting grid?!

Perhaps it’s because horse racing in some other jurisdictions across the World has become so bland & boring they think this would somehow make it more interesting?

I have to agree with most people here, who makes up this rubbish, it’s obviously been designed to make someone a few quid. Horseracing is not and never will be a team sport. I have followed the sport for more than 60years and I have zero interest in the Shergar cup, the Racing League and will not have a bet on any horse involved. We need a reduced fixture list which should result in more competitive racing and better prizemoney.

It sounds like a bad idea.

Then again, The Hundred was mocked and criticised by cricket fans but the 8 franchises have recently been valued at £975 million.
