What a race this is! Capt Conan v Al Ferof v Capt Chris. All coming back from layoffs, I think CC will take all the beating, he looked top drawer last season. Think AF might just need this, and he didn’t shine when last at Ascot. The reigning champ Capt Chris looks well suited by the track but probably needs a sound surface these days. Two top class races to savour on Sat!
November 20, 2013 at 18:23 #459135I decided for once to go in early and look for nice odds on Captain Conan. Very quickly my bet was taken so now Im wondering if he is going to run at all.

Looks an interesting race and its a card where we might see the mightily impressive Annie Power also.

November 20, 2013 at 20:48 #459141Just read that CC has bulked up a lot over the summer and needed a lot of work so might just need this, or isn’t quite ready yet.

He might…..
It could also mean he is a whole lot better

November 20, 2013 at 22:44 #459151I suspect a 90% fit Al Ferof could beat them both
November 21, 2013 at 14:22 #459191Have you guys seen the Paul Nicholls stable tour videos on Betfair? Al Ferof looked so enormous that they may have trouble loading him onto a horsebox! If PFN has slimmed the grey down to 100% fitness since then, he really is a miracle man. I hope Al Ferof runs very well though. I fancy him for the King George.
Of the rest, I have never really warmed to Captain Conan. He may be an artificially short price for a horse who has never actually delivered a truly spectacular performance.
Captain Chris
is my idea of the winner at the moment. He is high-class when going right-handed, storms up the straight and seems to run well fresh.
November 22, 2013 at 14:23 #459278Just three runners in this now, which is very disappointing. If Al Ferof can’t win this I’d be very surprised.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
November 22, 2013 at 16:45 #459297It’s all about how Al Ferof looks in the paddock for me. If he has shifted the podge since the stable tour video, he should slam Captain Chris receiving 4lbs.
He’ll need to be very sharp to beat Captain Chris with the Hobbs horse finding his ideal conditions, though.
November 22, 2013 at 21:27 #459331Captain Chris over Al Ferof for me.
November 22, 2013 at 21:46 #459342Slight reservations over Al Ferof with so few runners. Wonder if we’ll get a truly run race? A greater stamina test will suit Captain Chris one would assume…?
Already got money on a Nichol’s double with Silviniaco Conti, so here’s to hoping!
November 23, 2013 at 09:54 #459439Capt Chris non runner, a great race now a foregone conclusion!

Shambles from both the BHA and Ascot, something needs to be done to look into the reasoning for a two horse race match for a Grade 2.
November 23, 2013 at 11:15 #459479And the trainers.
November 23, 2013 at 12:08 #459506It’s a wonder Mullins didn’t send over something like Call The Police or Mikael D’Haguenet with Annie Power.
A race that looked so exciting with Al Fefor, Captain Chris and Captain Conan looking like running now a severe disappointment.
November 23, 2013 at 16:42 #459555Decent effort from Al Ferof, for all it gave the impression that Captain Chris would have rustled his jimmies.
All of the old ability seemed to be there in spite of the absence.
He got a little tired at the end, but that was to be expected. The biggest worry for me was seeing Al Ferof dive at a few fences. I was hoping that time and maturity would have eradicated this trait, but the horse still closes his eyes and prays sometimes. I do worry that he will take a real pearler one day, just as he did over hurdles.
November 23, 2013 at 17:56 #459576Also seemed to twist his body on certain fences. Possibly just lacking in " match practice ".
November 24, 2013 at 00:53 #459625If the other horse had fallen would the winner have received all of the prize money on offer or would he still only get the prize money for coming first, and what happened to the prize money that would have gone to the third horse [had there been one].
