Fair enough Max, sorry, I maybe way off the mark.
To me you’re a good man and I hope I’m not talking out of turn but it strikes me that you have a certain romantic notion of how the game should be played….and I don’t see any reality in that. Rather it’s all about turning a profit any way you can (down and dirty), and you’re clearly good enough to do so…..little and often perhaps?
I’ll say no more, as you say you’ve more that enough respect around these parts (including me) so I just want to see you do well….
February 10, 2010 at 23:52 #275529Max..
PM me with details for our meeting at Southwell Tues. if you want to, lets discuss strategy over a beer as I’ve had my crisis of confidence multiple times during my early punting career but came back for more. Each occasion makes me review my methods and refresh my techniques and learn from my mistakes and come out fighting which feeds into incremental profit.

February 12, 2010 at 20:25 #275942Pete, you were well within rights to give me a slap. Oldest rule in the book – never post after a session on the Addlestones! The gang on TRF are the only punters I know and the only time I talk about this whole subject is on here. Got carried away: Back to normal soon.
Slippery, I’ll PM you. Looking forward to seeing you on Tuesday. Bring something warm – baltic today.
Aaron, well done with White Shift. 11/1 winner. I really, really fancied it but ended up leaving it alone. That’s two pints you owe me!

He’s a fountain of knowledge all things Southwell and the key factors of this unique venue. Worth the price of admission and contribution to the gambling gods coffers.
February 16, 2010 at 23:45 #277274Slippery, that was great fun today and I’m glad you enjoyed it and arrived home safely! Look forward to meeting again.

February 19, 2010 at 22:06 #277937Potshot at Lingfield today.
13.45 Ant Music ran too badly to be true at Southwell last time and could bounce back. Tuscan King has to give weight to the favourite, Kirsty’s Boy, but is proven in the conditions. Sunrise Lyric has yet to start a single figure price and is clearly a Cole lesser light. Broughton Swinger will need more time.
2.20 Much better was expected of Johnston’s Understory last time, but he ran green. A more respectable performance is expected of the son of Forestry today. Blues Music ran an extraordinary race first time out, being completely tailed off before making ground hand over fist when the race was all over. Its tough to choose between the two horses here. Rebel Soldier is apparently fancied first time out for red hot stable.
2.50 The best artificial surface race of the week by far. Autumn Blades has been in blistering form and will be thereabouts, as will the highly consistent Mr Willis, but a sporting vote goes to
Orpsie Boy
who may just be suited to Lingfield’s tricky mile on his first attempt at the trip. Hayley Turner is better at Lingfield than anywhere else and will conserve the admirable sprinter’s suspect stamina till the very last minute. Beautifully handicapped on his best form, he goes well at Lingfield. Mahadee may need the run but is the best horse in the race and Callan rides – a tasty combination.
3.20 Gargano was another horse to be caught out by Southwell’s taxing surface but even so, the even money favourite ran a woeful race. However, you can still make a profit backing Braveheart blowouts next time out.
War of the Roses
(NAP) looks to have been set up for this. Won last year and was given a nice quiet prep run over a trip much too short. A strong traveller, the underrated Tom Eaves rides again. A sporting nap.
3.55 A trappy little contest best left to the Gary Moore trained Cupid’s Glory.
4.30 Takajan could be thrown in here, but his good stable have been quiet for a while. A chance is taken on Trading Nation who looks to be improving for Peter Hiatt’s attentions. The son of Tiznow will relish the 6f trip after finding the extra furlong a step too far last time.
5.10
Four runners for a sixteen grand race is a disgrace and whenever I hear British trainers bore everyone stupid about prize money I’ll be on hand to quote the turnout for this event. Why not reward the Class 6 racers? They always turn out.
That said,
Pawan
has never had a better recent opportunity to win a race. Only beaten half a length last time, the old stager acts at Lingfield and gets at least 7lb in weight. Will be the fittest in the field and there are weaknesses in the other horses. La Toreador may need the run. Hoh Hoh Hoh’s stable haven’t had a winner this year and Ivory Silk is just a touch too high in the handicap. On his 156th run, Pawan is worth a bet.
Can’t resist
Lough Derg
back under Tom Scudamore at Haydock for the Lucky 15, along with all horses in bold.
Best of luck everyone.
