Good winner yesterday, Shoes. I was there and needless to say I was on Monda.
A well backed winner too.
Nothing today so far from me.
January 26, 2007 at 13:00 #67990Hail the Chief is interesting and could stack em up or set a decent clip, but doing the latter may set it up for a closer, he may also need it,
Though a worthy fav on Winter Derby run, i’m not sure this will be a stiff enough test for Blythe Knight and wouldn’t back at current odds anyway.
Curtail, Atlantic Quest and Xtra Torrential look up against it.
So Kindlelight Debut gets the nod (again) in the hope there’s a decent enough gallop for her to pounce late in the straight, past runs here tend to show her late run style may be better suited to here than Leafy

January 26, 2007 at 13:22 #67991Anybody had a look at the dire 3yo handicap at 2.30? I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t want to take 5/2 against Zaafira being able to win off 60. She’s looked pretty exposed in plating class beforehand but has probably improved a little for the drop to 7f. The 2 that catch my eye are both handicap debuts from shrewd yards, John Quinn has given the dirst vred Fire Alarm a good break since doing very little in 3 maidens back in the summer and looks very much the type to do better in handicaps. Similar comments apply to Strathaird. He showed speed from a wide position before fading over course and distance on his debut and looked as if the drop in trip was very mych against him next time, never travelling, but catching the eye with good late headway. His third run looked a typical ‘one for a mark’ exercise. Dropped out at Southwell and running on from rear withoout being overly punished. Out of a dam that was listed class he’s bred to be much better than a 47 horse and looks sure to improve. Can afford to back them both at 16’s and 6’s.
January 26, 2007 at 13:33 #67992I agree that Zaafira looks pretty short and pretty beatable here, although on actual form, you’d have to say she has a massive shout especially with her current well-being proven.
I’ve gone very small on two other handicap debutants, these being Ancient Times (hint of form, Baugh yard doing quite well in recent weeks) and Lost All Alone (again a hint of better to come and from a yard who has done ok and might be about to hit form).
To be honest this race is, to all intents and purposes, a total shocker from a punting perspective. There are several unexposed sorts who have shown little but might be capable of more, and if anything here decides to put in a half-decent performance it will probably win…
January 26, 2007 at 13:35 #67993Not my kind of race DJ, but keep an eye on Tranquility in the betting, started slowly, reported to have a breathing problem by trainer and not knocked about are some of the comments, but still they persist and still J Quinn rides
January 26, 2007 at 14:17 #67994I’ve got that down to six, so it’s a no bet for me, but best of luck.
Might be stupid to back against the first three in the betting in any AW race at the mo, but I’ve just taken 140 and 16 (place) to small stakes on Bill Turner’s Circle of Truth in the 5f claimer at 3.00.
Short last time out when finishing last and almost certainly needed the race. Drawn three and has a good piece of form from May under this jockey, (2nd by a length), in a better race than this. Huge price on that form, but it is a claimer. One of only two 3-y-o’s in the field. Stable has had a winner and a second from few runners recently. A sporting bet.
January 26, 2007 at 14:33 #67995Tranquility being lined up for grass according to trainer, today a finding out mission
Yer couldn’t make it up, hope HRA are watching this
January 26, 2007 at 14:37 #67996Thankfully they sort of tried
swinging whip don’t fool people does it?

January 26, 2007 at 14:42 #67997Not good for anyone who backed the beast before that interview, was it EW?:o
Three in the first four of the betting? Never seen anything like this.
January 26, 2007 at 14:44 #67998Correct Max
using racing as a training regime imo
January 26, 2007 at 15:09 #67999Tissue for 3.30
Blythe 2.68
Kindlelight 3.5
Hail 5
Curtail 16
Atlantic 18
Xtra 42
I’m tempted to lay Blythe Knight at current odds, but Hannon stating Hail the Chief needs run is putting me off, so i’ll just stick with KD back
January 26, 2007 at 15:09 #68000Here’s me giving the jump boys stick about uncompetitive racing, but this stuff?
I’m wasting my time here.
Are there any bookies left with any money?:o
January 26, 2007 at 15:12 #68001Good luck with that EW: the index is well in your favour.
Layers of the first two on the AW must be hunting for the nearest cliff.
January 26, 2007 at 15:40 #68002NV – I’m in love!!*   ÂÂÂ
Fantastic winner!!! Took 60/1
*PS: Not really – you’re safe!
January 26, 2007 at 15:41 #68003Great exacta NV!
January 26, 2007 at 15:44 #68004Cheers lads! Very generous exacta for a 6-runner race, and always nice when something works out that well…
How did the race unfold (I am stuck in a plush but freezing office in Barking)?
January 26, 2007 at 15:44 #68005Damn wished I’d bet it now. Finding the 33/1 winner is a fantatsic achievement in my book but telling us the second home too is just plain spoiling us!
