I’m quite sure it stands for anglo-arabs.
But are there any anglo-arab bred horses racing in GB and IRE at all?I know there were a few races for them just a week ago or so at Pau. National Hunt and also Flat, but how do they fit in the game of Thoroughbreds at all?
February 26, 2024 at 21:41 #1682705Ruby, do you remember Sully D’Oc AA who raced in the UK for Anthony Honeyball quite recently?

February 26, 2024 at 21:44 #1682706From the Racing Post:
The letters AA after a racehorse’s name stand for Anglo-Arabian – a separate breed to thoroughbreds which is the result of various crosses between thoroughbreds, Arabian and Anglo-Arabian horses.
To qualify as Anglo-Arabian or AA, at least 12.5 per cent of a horse’s genetic make-up must be Arabian. Previously, a percentage of between 12.5 and 25 per cent saw horses fall under the category of Anglo-Arabe de Complement or AC.
February 26, 2024 at 22:46 #1682716Thanks, Marlingford. I was just wondering why there aren’t more of them running in GB or IRE.
Would be nice to find out, if the Arabian part has an influence when it comes to stamina. It could be a very interesting breed, especially if it isn’t that much in-bred.February 27, 2024 at 07:56 #1682743Hermino AA finished 2nd in the Heroes Handicap Hurdle (Premier Handicap) at Sandown for Gary Moore this season too
February 27, 2024 at 09:22 #1682747Noticed the AA one or two times , I thought it was a typo on racecard so that makes sense now .
I like the races mainly French trots beamed into bookies back in day before AWT , first I thought wow that’s a coincidence all the runners begin with V. Then noticed other races , nearly all runners started with same letter each race .February 28, 2024 at 07:34 #1682856I always assumed it meant they were members of the AA – I keep looking out for RAC or Green Flag in horse’s names, but have yet to notice any.
PS: I’m not sure horses should be allowed to drive, tbh.

Boom-tish.
February 28, 2024 at 22:21 #1682914Helcatmudwrestler, the French Trotter registry give each foal crop a letter that their names must start with. It’s alphabetical so Trotters born in 2020 have names starting with “K”, those born in 2021 start with “L”, and so on. Note that nowadays most trotters in France are crossed with Standardbred so unless you’re watching a race restricted specifically to the French Trotter breed you won’t see this pattern. Standardbreds of course have their own naming conventions with suffixes added depending on country of origin, reserved farm names, reserved family names, etc.
