To any sadists still reading this thread:

I just had the displeasure of being sent in the mail a copy of his now (way) out-of-print autobiography.

I am sorry but it is very difficult to believe J. Wilson shagged his way around London in the mid 60’s…1860’s maybe….

Did he live next door to a hospital that specialized in frontal lobotomy’s for blind nymphomaniacs?

My God, could he name drop anymore? Everyone he knows seems to be Duke this or Dutchess this or Lord so and so…even the Archbishop of Canterbury didn’t seem to keen on listening to Jules discuss the destruction of the sabbath day…

He always seemed such a nice guy and I do respect his record keeping and form book knowhow…but please…that’s two hours of my life I will never get back.

They say everyone has a book inside them…so thinking along these lines, I have come up with some book ideas for members of the racing media, please feel free to add your own ideas:

Racing as an Intellectual Challenge by Derek Thompson.
    Trainer’s Wives: by Brough Scott.
Further back in the Field by J A McGrath.
Tan Like the Stars by Matt Chapman.

Anyway, I am off to give Mrs. Fanshawe-Smythe a good seeing too while her hubby is mounting horses at Kempton, then its off to dinner with Dutchess Nobleless followed by my tanning bed, then throwing darts at the newspaper, recording my tipping line and learning the jockeys colors for tomorrows card.

    Craig.

You know what they say long nose long whatever…….and who said they were facing him at the time

Does it by any chance mention the time when "Gypsy" Dave Goulding told him in an interveiw he was breeding bogarts in his spare time and he stood there taking it all in?. Was not a happy chappy when he realised Davy was extracting the urine.

    Alas, it does not….

But who wants to go poking around there?

When I reviewed the book shortly after it was published I described him as

"a pompous, arrogant, immature, misogynist who epitomises all that is bad about the public school system."

and that is from me – a staunch believer in private education.

Needless to say we are not on each others Christmas card lists.

Now that takes me back – when I was a student one of the highlights of Rag Week was the "bogart" hunt – very serious hunt indeed. There were six of them "released" from captivity and the first person to track down all six and get back to the Uni bar had free booze all night – a very worthwhile prize.

I recall getting thrown out of and banned from M&S when I chased one into the store and bought it down with a rugby tackle.

…or the time when, during one meal out, Graham Cowdrey swapped Wilson’s decades-old vintage red of preference for a cheap house wine without him noticing the difference, only for him to back-pedal furiously when the conceit was revealed?

    Ted:

Why is Robot from Lost In Space your avatar? Big fan of Lost In Space, here.

My avatar should be my favorite Doctor Who, Jon Pertwee, but it doesn’t show on here for some reason.

However, on other racing foums I go too in the USA, I do get asked if my hair is really that big!

    I’m not sure, it’s a bit different isn’t it?

And of course I did like Lost in Space when I was a youngster. :D

He was very anti the 5/6 day entry system when it was first brought in – even though in my opinion it has saved owners a fortune in entry fees (as opposed to the previous system where you entered all suitable races weeks in advance). It has also meant that connections would have some idea of what was going to run before the declaration stage.

Wonder what he thinks of it now?

On the few occasions I came into contact with him in the 70’s, I always found him a polite, well mannered and decent chap, unlike one of his better known contemporaries.

I am sure he is. JW was always very friendly and helpful to me when I was a kid.

I would happily buy him a drink, anytime!
