Some of the decisions Connell has made in recent years have been questionable but this one not so much. The purchases of Mossey Joe and Old Kilcash in particular come to mind, while Pineau De Re was sold having won the Ulster Grand National by 23 lengths.
However it’s not a big surprise that Connell and Mullins have parted ways, and Heskin is a promising rider.
I do wonder though if the Connell operation is big enough to warrant the retention of a jockey. I would think he’d be better working off a ‘best available’ policy.
Best of luck to them anyway, Connell has pumped a lot of money in to the game and has had some very hard luck with the loss of Our Conor.
October 21, 2014 at 18:46 #493081No surorise really, Mullins is not that good a jockey and when you have put a lot of money into the game you want a top rider.
Not sure Heskin is the right choice however he can be no worse that Mullins who I avoid at all costs as he makes far too many mistakes.October 22, 2014 at 09:50 #493130Danny Mullins has so little talent he will just fade away and people will be left wondering at the madness of the appointment.
Connell must have been counting the days almost from day one.
October 22, 2014 at 23:30 #493188I wish Barry Connell all the best, anyone who invests heavily in NH racing just has to be a great sport, as they’ll never get theri money back. But the reported 150,000 euro for a 10 yr old hunter (Mossey Joe) was mind-boggling
October 23, 2014 at 05:12 #493192What friend bent his ear and whispered the name Mullins to him in the first place? He a wise business man must have circled his friends name for future references.
