Good day at the office, Brae Hill did the lad from Swinbanks proud, had £5 EW Cock o the North at 20s just coz he was the oldest and got the ppot to £2, thought it would pay more than £71!
Just one race interests me tomoz, 320 at Donny and not many will like the ground so I’ve taken a chance with Joe Eile and done 3 RFC

Wading
into
Bracelets
full Sister for the 1000gns and Oaks a couple of years ago, sadly she never set foot on a racecourse again after her 2yo campaign.Today was a taking performance from Michael Tabors daughter of ‘Cherry Hinton’ and she looks a filly of classic potential,More Oaks than Guineas.I wouldn’t write off the runner up
Balansiya
over a 11/2m just yet though for all she was outpaced today.Good signs for
Tapestry
after todays race for sure.

I thought Balansiya would win today and was disappointed with her finishing effort. I wouldn’t be overly keen on her upped to a mile and a half. However, it may well be the case that she’ll come on plenty for today.
I was watching
Marvellous
closely as I had her down as a potential Oaks filly and thought she ran a very nice race over a trip likely to be well short of what she wants. I planned on keeping my money in my pocket regarding the Flat this year but I might just have a fiver each way on her for the Oaks at 20/1.
Any thoughts on her?
March 31, 2014 at 20:57 #473826If
Marvellous
is an Oaks filly then I’m a poor judge Tommy, just because she’s a Galileo doesn’t mean she’s automatically blessed with stamina, her Dam was a sprinter who never looked like she would get a 11/2m either imo.
Tapestry
isn’t screaming stamina on pedigree either, she’s related to one of the best miler fillies I’ve ever had the pleasure of backing to win the 1987 1000gns at 16/1…….
Miesque
.’Tapestry’ is all class however.

If the weatherman is correct we will need soft ground horses, I like the look of:
You Must Know Me from Henry de Bromheads yard who ran close over these fences previously looks too big at 25s.
I also still fancy Raz de Maree and Lion ne Bearnai for the National.
April 1, 2014 at 15:39 #473876Gord sometimes you are a poor judge. i remember this time last year me and Tommy saying to you LEADING LIGHT is a star and i remember you saying he aint’ no star he no good and won the st leger and he win gold cup this year too mate

Any thoughts on BALANSIYA i think she win 1000 guineas at Newmarket if ground is fast she be even better. Weld was saying may of pulled her out of race on sunday because of ground but she ran well.
I like LONG RUN,BURTON PORT,PRINCE DE BEAUCHENE for the national i do too.
April 1, 2014 at 15:47 #473879Gord any thoughts on maiden races in Ireland tomorrow this PALACE looks intresting.

If Johan Strauss can’t win this in a canter tomorrow the fans of Kingston Hill will be reaching for the oxygen mask and valium tablets.
Our old pal Kingsbarns runs later in the day and it looks a bit sad to see him plying his trade at listed level after such lofty targets last year. If he can’t win this one he might as well be retired.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

If he was beaten it wouldn’t be the first time a highly touted Ballydoyle older horse was turned over on their seasonal debut. St Nicholas Abbey (twice) and Yeats the most obvious examples.

I’d definitely fancy her to beat Balansiya over middle distances. Over six furlongs Balansiya would have had all those fillies cooked the other day, don’t see her getting a mile and a half at all myself. I don’t know if you could call You’resothrilling a sprinter given all her runs at six furlongs were as a two year old, and her two starts as a three year old were over a mile (stayed on) and 10 furlongs.
Good luck with Tapestry, still a lot of jumping water to pass under the bridge before Guineas weekend thankfully

I think You Must Know Me is a bit of thief myself Gary, although he did run very well over the fences previously as you say.
On his best form Líon Na Bearnaí would have to have a great chance, he won the Irish National off 135 and is only five pounds higher now. He actually ran in the same race my Irish fancy, Quito De La Roque, pulled up in last time out.
Quito and Tidal Bay for me anyway
April 2, 2014 at 14:05 #473985Good luck mate, I’ve got mine backed at bigger prices, have taken Night in Milan 40 and The Rainbow Hunter 33s both win only
April 2, 2014 at 17:58 #474030A day to forget for the O’Briens with three short favourites all well stuffed. Weakness in the betting, training in public and poor riding all being cited by the pundits in the aftermath.
I know that several O’Brien horses have gone on from disappointing seasonal debuts but Kingbarns has only the one good win on his CV so far and he should have been able to win today, even if not fully tuned up. I read someone saying that he fancies Kingsbarns to win the Coronation Cup. I am not having any of that and I have marked him down as a bust in my book.
I didn’t think the poor choice of trying for a run up the inside on Johann Strauss was as detrimental to his chance as Matt Chapman was screaming about on ATR and it was a disappointing effort against horses he should have kicked into touch based on being runner up in the Racing Post Trophy. I said at the time that I didn’t suspect it was strong form and we’ll see how Kingston Hill gets on with regards to the validity of that opinion.

Good observations Steve, blatant schooling in public today….Without a whip!
ThisJohan Strauss
will go on to win a Group 1 this season just like
St Nicholas Abbey
all over again.
April 4, 2014 at 19:23 #474419The King of foresight has found the horse to break his Gold cup hoodoo. Some would think winning the Gold Cup every 2nd year was brilliant but I being a legend has to live upto my lofty status.
Holywell
is that horse,he has everything, absolutely everything for the Cheltenham showpiece and he’s still learning. The official handicapper has to put him up to 165 now and that is good enough to be a winner in my book.If he improves for the Summer he will turn up in March rated 175 and thats no exaggeration.Great to see others on here have serious Ante-Post vouchers burning our pockets already.Exciting times.
I have always ratedBoston Bob
and this is how I watched todays race at Aintree…..Ffs he’s dropped him out again and the commentator says "And last again is ‘Boston Bob’,Whats he playing at now as he gets further behind I’m saying to the telly.****** useless ****** jockey Paul Townend,he did this in the RSA."And still in last place is ‘Boston Bob’" says the commentator.Geezuz get him into the race I’m suggesting to the TV.3 out and he’s going nowhere,2 out and I’m sensing something,Come on Paul get at him I shout, this fellows bred to stay allday, going to the last and he’s a player I’m having a deja-vu moment as ‘Boston bob’ starts to swerve….Sh*t he’s going to fall again but alas No!Paul Townend gets at him and he positively takes off…..Whoosh! Brilliant ride Paul briliant ride! If this fellow doesn’t have an aversion to Cheltenham he too is still a Gold Cup horse, jurys out there though.
