Thanks for the heads up landafar. I doubt we’ll be able to squeeze it in though. I’ll certainly keep an eye out for their produce though! :yahoo:

It was an enjoyable pre-Christmas meeting at Plumpton this afternoon. The field sizes were a little bit on the small side but there were still one or two close finishes. It was quite good value at an early bird price of only £16.

I rate Plumpton as the best small racecourse in Britain. It is well worth a visit if you have never been before.

The only false note was the bar running out of Harvey’s Sussex Best before I got a pint. At least I got one in Lewes afterwards. :-)

The old course at Southwell back in the black and white telle days was best described as basic. All of the outbuildings were wooden including the stands. Still it was interesting. In those bygone days even the connections did their betting on course. That’s where my Grandad’s hearing aid came in handy it’s surprising what you could hear around the parade ring. One day I heard two of the greats of the Northern scene in conversation.W.A.Stevenson and Neville Crump both of who had won a decent race or two.

Now that it’s been confirmed Sir Gino should return to health long term Id like to share a video I took of him yesterday. The first time I ever went to Cheltenham 20 years ago I made a vow to one day treat myself to the panoramic restaurant. Well yesterday was that day. And it made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. We had a hotel about 20 mins from the course and Friday night went into Cheltenham to have a few beers and something to eat. When we got back to the hotel I had a nightcap and got chatting to a couple of lads who it transpired were in charge of doing the tipping and running the tote offices in there. Well on the Saturday we got there he came to our table and asked if we’d like to come and have a look behind the scenes of the pre parade and parade ring prior to the unibet hurdle. I felt like I’d won the euro millions and managed to take a video of Sir Gino before he went out.

    Sir Gino

That hasn’t worked. Is it not possible to share videos on here?
