Who’s gonna buy your chickens when I’m gone ?
October 15, 2023 at 11:06 #1666767Your perceptions are always most welcomed Purwell and it was good to read your Bob. He is a weighty artist in his own right and readily admits his scribings are in a different part of the gallery to Paul Simon’s.
If a race was arranged between the betting ring and the wedding ring the latter would be odds on to win in a canter. I missed York and Newmarket on Friday and Saturday was too busy a day. A fifty pound enticement allowed me the luxury of enjoying the whole eight race dirt programme in Gulfstream Park Florida come the evening. I was on an evening train last night and followed what I could of an eleven race programme there that ended around 11pm roughly the time I got back in. I had to forgo the heath and the mire once again and City of Troy is just history lesson to me.
I can snatch a bit of racing here and there but like Tinman there are so many pressures to overcome.
All these wars the world over are having a deleterious effect on people’s health generally. You pop to the doctor’s after a two week wait and say.
“I have got these troublesome feet doc the pain is keeping me up at night and then there’s the body itching.”
The doctor’s mind’s in Gaza and as he looks at you, you can visibly see him thinking ‘ ‘Oh dear another mental case’I’ve never been to Newmarket – I always imagine there are horses walking about in the main street which will be cobble stoned, and the heath will always be shrouded in a heavy mysterious mist. These are my perceptions.
Do have a nice day ☀️October 15, 2023 at 11:37 #1666771On the subject of mental cases
‘George Orwell wrote 1984 to teach people a lesson about the negative things that could happen if they allowed their government to exercise total control. The totalitarian regime of Oceania is able to manipulate their citizens into believing anything, which allows them as much power as they could possibly want.’
The book is one of the few I have read and is a favourite. After reading it I seemed to connect with it and it had a rather strange long lasting effect on me. I often wake up as Winston Smith and even to this day seek out coffee houses that serve the drug on a metal tray.
October 15, 2023 at 11:53 #1666774I think this explains it best …still the greatest film to watch on the big screen

October 16, 2023 at 01:20 #1666851Hmmm – I was drinking in the Duke of York pub in the near vicinity of Victoria Station some fifty years ago when in walked Susan George with a group of theatre land friends and I listened agog and watched enthralled and suddenly was in the moment earwigging. All I really wanted to know was how Winston Smith had skipped back fifteen odd years and found himself again in a dilemma.
George with her thick mane of blonde hair standing before me, mouth wide, nice set of teeth getting them energized about this and that, and a woman who was extremely violated in Straw dogs a film readily compared to Jim JTS’s favourite – the Clockwork Orange and filmed in the same year, and I didn’t see any comparison at all. One was a Klint the other could have come from the Gambols in the Daily Express ?October 16, 2023 at 07:32 #1666857I see Clockwork as the punk of cinema …. and Kubricks greatest piece

November 16, 2023 at 16:51 #1670624Ok well that’s news at least Nathan.
I’m sure Ian wouldn’t be as presumptuous as to say it’s what everyone would describe as good!
But news nonetheless! It’s good for the number one member of the Ian Davies fan club though. I wonder if he swaps money between his own accounts for the subscription costs!
November 16, 2023 at 17:07 #1670626I’ve not come across a Ian Davies only fans account
